With my very limited knowledge of metric measurements, I just quit reading.

English uses quotation marks for dialogue and ONLY quotation marks.

There is likely a good concept, maybe even good characters here. But it is so painful to read the writing style, from lack of quotation marks to the rapid fire listing of facts instead of a narrative flow and structure. Keep working at the skill, because it looks like you have good ideas.
