This is a standalone story but is a companion to "Connor's Fingers" as it is a story from the viewpoint of Maggie. If you haven't read it, there isn't any problem because this is a standalone tale. And if you did read that one, then... thank you. (LOL)

To my editor, you've been a great help. Thanks.

(Part 1)

The Party

It wasn't one of those noisy and over the top costume parties rather it was a relaxed and leisurely get together of professional-looking people. In no circumstances could it be described as stiff, nevertheless, it represented a somewhat sober image to be called a party. The food and drinks were impeccable and even the pickiest of picky people would find it hard to complain about it. The lights were comfortably bright, not too harsh for the eyes, and neither so dim that you would have difficulty to make out who you were having a conversation with at that moment. The art, too, greatly contributed to upholding the temperate mood. There, the upbeat music playing over the speakers did well to fill in the gaps of the drab conversations and drowned out the murmurs in the hall. All in all the host had done well to present a modest image and the guests' demeanor seemed to approve of it.

Conspicuously, a group stood out in that otherwise dull atmosphere. Different from the older gentlemen and ladies engaged in somber conversations, they gave off a vibrant impression. Every few moments, a chuckle or two would break out in the middle of them. It wasn't enough to disturb the guests inside the cozy hall, but they seemed to be having much fun among themselves. But on closer look, it was easy to realize it all centered around one person, one really special person.

It was a tall redhead, beautiful enough to be able to hold her own amongst the best of them. The black, low-cut dress showed off her cleavage, just enough to be teasing but not so much as to be slutty; the short hem gave a shy peek at her long, tanned, legs; combined, the dress accentuated her glamorous figure. Her sensuous lips, the deep green eyes, and the soft, arched, eyebrows on her heart-shaped face toed the line of perfection. With her height of 5'10" and an S-shaped body, the messy bun, hung low to the back of her head, was the final piece of her sublime form. She had a fascinatingly seductive smile but a confident, unwavering, gaze which was enough to deter any unwarranted familiarity.

Margaret Thorns, Maggie for friends, wasn't fazed by the tedious one-liners and the constant bragging, and one-upping the people around her had been engaged in. It had become an old tale for her. For a long time, she had been accustomed to the longing gazes, to the hungry stares, and to watching people's desperate attempts to win her favor, and knew just how to fend off the "accidental" brushes. As an extremely successful lawyer, it was a cinch for her to maintain a confident and tough exterior, no matter the circumstances. Though it did make her skin crawl sometimes, she was skilled in playing the field and to use her delicate charms to her advantage. By no means was it something dirty, but she wasn't some naïve schoolgirl with a head full of roses and unicorns. So she tried her absolute best, as she always did, to be cordial and pleasant, even if she wanted to get away from the usually amusing, but disgraceful farce.

But tonight was not about that. There was only a single reason she had dressed up to the tens. It was because the host of this little shindig was Laura Gaines, the rising star and the newest junior partner at their firm, and her new best friend. True to her nature tonight too, she had dressed up in a modest yet classy way. The black cocktail dress came down to just below her knees and the matching black heels complemented her 5'6" athletic figure quite well. Her lustrous, brown, hair flowed down to her waist and though she didn't have the curves to compete with Maggie, her 36-26-36 body quite suited her restrained yet refreshing personality.

Every few seconds Maggie glanced around for Laura, only to find her busy conversing with one of the more senior partners at the firm. But quite unlike her usual self, Laura had a beaming smile on her face and Maggie noticed that skip to her steps. Laura had called it a show of appreciation for her peers in celebration of her promotion but it was plain to see that it wasn't the only reason behind tonight's event, the fancy "welcome" streamer stuck at the center of the wall made sure of that.

"Maybe it's because of..."

Maggie wondered if the arrival of her brother had something to do with it. She had met Connor the last time he was in town. Cute, that's what she thought of him from the first impression but she didn't have much impression of him otherwise. But Maggie had noticed that Laura was quite sweet on her younger brother, Connor, evident by how she pulled the strings to get him the vacant position of "Head of the IT Department" even when he lacked experience at that level.

Maggie untangled herself from the pack of hyenas and strode towards Laura. She tapped her shoulder from behind and smirked as Laura turned around.

"There she is..." Laura smiled hauntingly at her.

Laura greeted her with enthusiasm and gave her a warm hug. Maggie wrapped her hands around Laura's back, careful not to let wine spill on the dress. She sighed heavily and spoke in a complaining voice, while her arm was resting on Laura's waist, "You left me with those shits!"

Laura found the pouting face of Maggie very cute but she felt bad for her friend whom she had neglected for the better part of the evening. So she apologized in an even tone, meaning every word of it, "Sorry, I have been a poor host... I just didn't realize that so many people would actually come..."

"It's fine... I understand," Maggie dismissed her worries with a wave. She then lowered her voice and asked in a conspiratorial tone, "That son of a bitch Thomas, he didn't give you any trouble, did he? Do you want me to take care of him?"

Laura stifled the laugh that had threatened to escape her lips as she refused the generous offer of help, "No, but thank you for looking out for me."

"Well, of course," Maggie smiled as she continued, "my friends are precious, especially you, Laura."

She added after a momentary pause, "... Miss Youngest partner at the firm!"

Laura scoffed at her, "At least I don't have my name on the door!"

"It's my dad's name..." Maggie spoke frustratingly and then both of them broke out in a chuckle.

Maggie took a sip of the white wine. She gestured towards the bedroom and asked coquettishly, "Don't you want to show me there?"

"You wish," Laura snorted. Then suddenly she had a mischievous look on her face as she spoke in a low, mysterious tone, "Maybe later...?"

"Huh?" It had left Maggie speechless even as Laura laughed it off as a joke for finally getting one over her. It was the first time Maggie had seen Laura in such a mood and she didn't know what to make out of it. On the one hand, she quite liked this full of spirit version, but on the other hand, she was scared.

Maggie tried to quickly change the topic before Laura could unnerve her anymore. "Nice party, by the way, must've taken a while..." her gaze was attracted to the various decorations Laura had put up.

Maggie had been to her place a few times, it was a nice house unlike her own grand mansion, and she was honestly impressed at Laura's skill to manage all the work singlehandedly. She had offered to help set up things but Laura had refused, saying that she had her brother to help out if she needed.

"Your work!?" Maggie pointed to the vibrant streamer with "welcome" written in the middle of it.

A blush came across Laura's face as she glanced in that direction. The pinkish hue on her fair skin was a thing of beauty, and Maggie couldn't help but gush in her mind about it. Maggie realized, that tonight, Laura was far more beautiful than she had ever known.

Laura seemed to be lost in thought before she pulled herself back and hummed her response, "Connor helped..." Maggie didn't understand the reason for Laura's weird reaction but before she could say anything to her about it, Laura asked her, "How was your date last night?"

All of a sudden, the air around Maggie changed as she sneered derisively, "What an asshole!" She gulped down the drink in her hand before Laura handed her another one. After she downed that too only then did she feel herself calm down a bit to make proper conversation, "It's the last time I agree to a date set up by my mom. I don't even think she realizes what kind of shitty men she introduces me to time and again. I swear all men are just horny pigs!"

"Sure, sure..." Laura nodded her head in agreement and then turned to gaze at her eyes, "Have you met Connor yet?"

"I-"

"Wait! Let me introduce you to him..."

"Very smooth Laura, very smooth!" Maggie shook her head. She could see right through her friend's sneaky way to advocate for her brother. She didn't want to disappoint her friend but there was no way she was going on a date with Laura's kid brother.

"Connor!" Laura waved to her brother. Maggie had to look twice before she realized the handsome young man coming towards them was Laura's kid brother. She didn't have the impression that he was this good looking. He looked nearly 6' tall and had similar dark hair as Laura. His face looked much more mature and serene like nothing could faze him. With his high cheekbones and his wide forehead, his toned frame appeared good enough to eat. Maggie mused inwardly about the pair of hot siblings and couldn't help but blush.

"Hey, Maggie! It's been a while."

Maggie smiled at him and shook his hand. "It has been..."

"You're looking great as ever," Connor said. He was enthusiastic but reserved.

"Thank you. And so do you." Maggie couldn't believe that it was the same guy who last time couldn't meet her eyes for more than a few seconds. He seemed much more confident and sure of himself. Also, she noticed that he didn't have the same hungry, lustful look in his eyes as most guys around her did. Instead, it looked as if he was questioning Laura with his eyes about her intentions.

"So, you're going to start work on Monday, right?" Maggie tried to move along the conversation and fill the awkwardness.

"Yes. It's all thanks to Laura..." His eyes twinkled as he glanced at Laura before he put on a genial smile as he gazed towards Maggie and added in a grateful tone, "and you too, of course."

"Ah, don't mention it!" Maggie waved her hand and smirked looking at Laura, "I owed Laura, as did a lot of people in the firm. Your sister is a big shot, you know!"

"She sure is," Connor too hummed his approval and stared at his sister.

Laura blushed under their combined gazes and muttered while looking away, "Yeah, yeah... That's just what I need, my friend and my brother ganging up on me..." She had already had to change her panties once and was hoping none of her guests could smell her pussy, she was dripping so bad as memories of being pounded a few hours earlier kept drifting through her mind... and there was the anticipation of feeling his cock ramming her pussy again, albeit in a more comfortable setting... such as her bed, or actually on the couch, instead of behind it.

"Right, that's just what you need," Maggie said in a low voice before taking a sip from her nearly empty glass. She peeked at her friend from the corner of her eyes before her tongue drifted out of her mouth to lick the drop of wine hanging at the edge of the glass, wondering what she smelled.

"... You don't know the half of it," Maggie mumbled to herself with a distant look in her eyes.

(Part 2)

The Date

Maggie looked across the table from her. Connor had his head buried in the menu, unaware of the storm brewing in her head. He had cleaned up nicely. If it was any other guy, with his looks and his charisma, she would be over the moon. And though she hadn't ever dated a younger guy, at thirty years of age she believed she was in the prime of her life and the measly five-six years difference was nothing in comparison. After all, he had been an instant hit with the women at the firm ever since he started his work two weeks ago. But it just wasn't what she...

She sighed to herself as she lamented about her weak self. When Laura asked her with those sweet, puppy-eyes, she just couldn't bring herself to say no. But now she realized that Laura had fooled her into believing that Connor had wanted to ask her out and vice versa when the truth was that it was all Laura's doing.

"Are you ready to order, Ma'am?"

Maggie glanced up at the waiter only to find him ogling her breasts. Her already dark mood worsened. "What a pig! That's why I wanted to swear off... " she thought to herself. But before she could give that sleazy man a piece of her mind, Connor had waved over the manager and asked for a replacement for their server.

"Thanks."

"It's nothing!"

Connor smiled at her before once again he busied himself in the menu like it was the most interesting thing in the world.

"Would it kill him to make some conversation?!" The good feelings in Maggie's heart immediately fluttered away as she watched him stare at the piece of paper.

"At least the place is nice..." The gentle breeze grazed her skin, refreshing her soul. She gazed out towards the city, in the moonlit night, the twinkling lights looked beautiful. A candlelight dinner with a handsome man at a rooftop restaurant by the water, she couldn't ask for a more romantic setting than this, if only...

"... Must be tough."

Connor's voice brought Maggie back to the present, "Sorry?" She said, unsure of the meaning of his words.

"I meant," Connor continued after looking up from the menu and gazing in her eyes, "It must be tough because you have to put up with the constant...umm... harassment?"

Maggie giggled at that. "Is this a roundabout way to compliment my looks?"

"Well you must be tired of hearing to the same words; "that you look fantastic," "that you are the most beautiful woman I ever met," and such over and over again..." He smiled with mischief in his eyes.

A chuckle escaped her before she cast him a sultry gaze and asked, "Well, am I really," her voice turned scratchy as she continued, "the most," in an incredibly seductive tone, "beautiful woman you ever met?"

Maggie saw him gulp in a breath. His eyes had widened a bit and his nose flared a little. He dodged her eyes and looked towards the lake as his voice sounded out, "Yes, you just maybe..."

She couldn't help feeling smug for rattling his cool. He had been getting on her nerves with his calm and collected act; sure she did like it, as it seldom happened, but she liked it much better when she could dictate the flow of things.

Suddenly, Maggie realized that once again only a few sentences from Connor were all it took for her to swoon over him. She blamed Laura for that. Laura had been singing his praises for so long that Maggie felt as if she knew him as much as Laura did.

"Laura! You're sneaky!" Maggie cursed at her friend in her mind as the new waiter took their orders. She gazed at the man across from her, and a blush crept up her fair cheeks as she felt her heartbeat speed up and the sprout of something new. She didn't know if it was the atmosphere or if it was because of his earlier words or his cute reactions, she found him more and more to her liking. It was like she couldn't veil herself from his gaze, couldn't escape his charm. But she didn't want that, didn't want to feel that way.

When Connor's eyes met her own, she blurted out to hide her panic. "So... How's work been?"

"It's tiring..." He sighed in answer.

Maggie scoffed, "We've never had such a hot IT Head before..."

"Thank you!"

"Oh, you smug little shit!" Maggie took a sip of water to hold her tongue. She was surprised at how refreshing it felt to be out with Connor, even if he seemed to be deliberately putting some distance between them. Though she had decided beforehand that the night would end at just dinner, she couldn't figure out his reason. It was like he wanted her but something was holding him back.

"Laura told me that the new case is quite," Connor paused to find the right word and then continued, "complicated?"

"Oh... she told you about that?!" She was a little amazed that Laura would share such information with him.

"She would never divulge any details about a case, but seeing how on edge she is, I asked her about it and all she would say is, 'It's complicated', so I've been trying to help ease her stress," Connor said nonchalantly as if it was no big deal.

Maggie's shock didn't wain after the frank admission. She didn't have a sibling of her own, but she imagined that even if she had a brother, there was a good chance she would not tell them about it. After all, it would be beyond uncomfortable to talk to your brother about something so immoral and creepy.

"Wow!" She pursed her lips and decided that it wasn't something to be talked about over dinner and ruin the romantic mood. She was also a little annoyed that Connor would bring it up now. At the same time, she was a bit glad that her mind was off and away from picturing him at her...

"Well, it is complicated, that case is. And if not for Laura, I wouldn't have been able to get away tonight." Her eyes turned a little glossy as she said in an infatuated tone, "She is such a saint!"

Connor's voice sounded wistful as he muttered in acknowledgment, "She sure is..."

(Part 3)

The Stumble

Maggie slumped in her office chair. It had been a long day. That dreadfully tedious and distasteful case got wrapped only a day before, but there was still a lot of work to do. She was glad that she had Laura's help or else it would have been so much more work.

There had been some tension between them since her date with Connor, nevertheless, neither she nor Laura had let that affect their work like the good professionals they were. Her heart lightened when she thought about Laura and she let out a heavy sigh, "Oh Laura..."

"What about me?"

Maggie jumped to her feet, startled. She was a little taken aback by the sudden appearance of Laura. She chuckled to herself at the oddness of the situation. "Nothing, nothing... Why don't you take a seat?"

Laura glanced at the sofa but didn't move her feet towards it. Instead, she squinted her eyes as she asked, "What happened with you and Connor?"

Maggie was surprised at the direct confrontation. She didn't want to get into it with Laura so she tried to dodge the question. "Why don't you take a seat? I'll pour you a-"

"Maggie, please!"

Maggie held her head in her arms after she settled down on her chair. She stole a glance at Laura and the steely gaze directed at her, hurt a little. She understood that Laura wouldn't let it go this time around. Now that the case had been settled, she didn't have to hold back.

"Nothing happened alright?" Maggie spoke wearily.

"Really?!" Laura pressed on, "I definitely know something happened because both of you have been acting off."

"Tell me, please!"

Maggie didn't like it that it had come to this; the imploring look on Laura's face felt like a heavy mountain pressing on her heart. There was a reason why she had wanted to avoid doing this. It hasn't been that long since she had known Laura outside of work, and even now it was hard to know about her, Laura was the epitome of a private person. Maggie couldn't guess what would be Laura's reaction to it.

And thus Maggie was scared to tell her, she was scared to push her away. After all, it was better than being hated by Laura even if she couldn't...
