He stared back, no less startled. Then he took her papers.
"Nancy... Roberts. I see, I see... What a pleasant surprise! When Mary told me about you, I had no idea we were already acquainted..."
"It's a surprise to me too, mister..."
Nancy could not decide how to respond. The Nancy of the day before would probably die on the spot from shame and anxiety, but today's Nancy was different. So she just gave the man a big smile.
"Nice dress," he continued. "I admire your taste. But I must say... Your last dress was much better!"
He looked into her eyes and smiled. They paused and laughed.
"Welcome to our team!" Still laughing, the man signed her papers.
"Thank you, mister!"
"John Lewis. Call me John..."
They could not stop laughing. Mary and the hiring manager looked at them in confusion.
