"Very nice of them," Jeanine added.

We got in the lkimo, and it headed out. While we rode, Jeanine and Stan helped Dawn and Samantha complete their logbooks.

*****

About 30 minutes later, we were unloading our bags at the Marriott as a couple of bellmen gathered them. We went inside and checked in. I checked in last.

"Dr. Smith. There is a message for you," the clerk said and handed me an envelope.

After everything was taken care of, I opened the envelope. It was a note from Linda.

'I hope you don't mind, but Rachel and I are staying in your suite's other bedroom. There are rental cars for you and Stan and Jeanine. I have the keys and paperwork.

Linda'

"Let's head to our room," I said.

We went to the elevator and went up to our floor. Stan and Jeanine went down the hall, and we walked to our room and went in. Linda and Rachel were sitting on a sofa, working on their laptops.

"Hey, you two," I said.

"You finally made it," Linda replied.

"There were so many airplanes in the air," Samantha said.

"That is why we had to get here early."

"Are you going to be with your helicopter?" Dawn asked. She had wondered why they were coming.

"Yes. I promised the people at Eurocopter I would for a few days. It was part of the deal to get yours," Linda replied.

"Oh? Well, thanks," Dawn said. "I'm happy it will be November now."

"All the ones I have ordered will be coming then too. Maybe I can recruit you three to help move them around the country."

"Cool!" Came from Samantha. "We can do it!"

"Maybe we can!" Dawn exclaimed. "Where are they coming in at?"

"Charleston."

"Cool! We can fly ours back from there!" Samantha exclaimed.

I saw Amy roll her eyes.

"Where are all of them going?" I asked.

"Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginias, Georgia, Alabama, those areas."

"We can help!" Samantha exclaimed.

"You won't be crossed-trained by then," I said, although they would probably be.

"Bummer," came from Samantha.

"Why so many in those areas?" Dawn asked.

"I bought the air ambulance services for the region. I hope it pays off."

I got a smile from Linda.

"Who is this guy?" Samantha asked and handed Linda a business card. She looked at it.

"It says Michael Garnier, Airbus Tiger Pilot. Where did you get the card?" Linda asked.

"He was admiring my landing! What is a Tiger Pilot?"

Samantha took the card back.

"Don't know. Was that all he was admiring?" Linda asked her.

"He wanted to know how I handled!"

"Did you tell him!"

*****

We all went down to a late lunch. Samantha and Dawn talked all through our lunch about flying up.

When we got back to the suite, we settled. Samantha kept asking Linda about moving her helicopters around. Rachel went to the other bedroom to take a nap. I went with her.

"Tired?" I asked.

"I don't know how she does it. We were up all night taking care of things since she will be gone for a few days."

"You two need your rest. Remember, you are pregnant."

"Tell her. I am trying not to drink so much coffee."

Rachel took her clothes off and crawled up on the bed in her lingerie, and I joined her.

"Has Dawn figured anything out?" She asked quietly.

"No. The people at Eurocopter emailed me and said that Crystal had done an incredible job painting it."

"Can't wait to see it."

Rachel curled up next to me, and I held her, and we went to sleep.

*****

"Hey, you two. We are going out to eat," Dawn said from the door and woke us up.

"What time is it?" I moaned.

"7:30."

Rachel and I got up and got ready. We left in two cars with everyone to find a restaurant because the one in the hotel was crowded. Stan and Jeanine were out with some friends.

We found a restaurant. It was crowded too. Once we were seated, Dawn talked to Linda about being at the show with her helicopter.

"They asked me if I would do it for a few days. They will put mine on the floor with their exhibits tonight because it is one of the only custom VIP EC-155's in the US right now. They thought my being there would send a message that it is the best for VIPs. I'll stay a few days, then Jeanine and Stan get to talk to people."

"It is pretty fancy inside," Dawn said. "I wonder if I can get mine set up that nice?"

"I think that is one of your options. You can talk to them about everything you can get on it."

"I hope I can talk my sweet husband into letting me get everything on it!"

"Oh, I don't think you'll have any problems getting one with everything on it, Dawn," Linda said with a big smile.

They had plenty to talk about until we finished dinner.

"Everyone ready to go?" I asked.

"Let's go. It's getting late," Linda said.

We paid and headed out. It was nearly 11:00, and the parking lot was almost empty. We had to walk to our cars, parked at the end of the dark parking lot. As we walked up to the first car, a seedy-looking guy appeared.

"Hey man...have you got a couple of bucks to spare?" He asked.

"Sure," I said cautiously and pulled out a $20 and went to hand it to him.

"Good! Now give me all your fucking money!" He yelled and produced a big knife.

"Go," I said softly to Dawn and pushed all the girls back as she stood there.

"Come on dude. My husband offered you $20. Take it and walk away unhurt," Dawn told him calmly.

"Fuck you bitch! Give me all your money!"

"Okay. Let me get it out of my pocket."

Dawn reached behind her into the back pocket of her jeans.

"Ahhhhhh!!" The guy started screaming.

Dawn had pulled one of her throwing knives out so fast that I was probably the only one that saw her do it. It was now deeply embedded in the shoulder of his knife hand as he screamed.

"Ahh, bitch! I am going to fucking kill you now!!"

"I told you to walk away, dude."

He took his knife in his other hand.

"Ahhhhhh!!" He screamed again now that he had another knife buried in his other shoulder.

"Last chance," Dawn said. "The next one goes in your nuts!"

"Ahhh...fuck," he moaned and turned and hurried away.

"Don't pull those out! Asshole," Dawn said and turned to check on us.

Rachel was in front of Linda with her gun in her hand. Linda looked shocked.

"Let's go," Dawn said.

"We should call the police!" Linda exclaimed.

"Too much trouble. He'll have a hard time explaining the wounds anyway at the ER," Dawn said.

"He probably won't go to the ER," Rachel said as she looked around.

"He better! Each of those is stuck in his Subclavian Arteries. If he pulls them out, he'll bleed to death," Dawn added.

"Dawn! You just keep surprising the shit out of me!" Linda exclaimed madly.

"I don't put up with shit like that. James took care of you all while I made sure he didn't get to you. I didn't want Rachel shooting him. That would have been a big mess."

"James? Did you know she was going to do that?" Rachel asked.

"Of course."

"You two are going to need to warn me about these stunts!" Rachel exclaimed and put her gun away.

"She didn't want you shooting anyone!" I said and laughed. Linda didn't think it was funny.

"Why did you throw a knife at him?" Rachel asked. "He would have ran when he saw my gun."

"I am too tired to beat the fuck out of him..."

Rachel moved Linda to their car, and they got in and closed the doors.

"What about your knives?" Samantha asked.

"I have plenty. I buy them in bulk! Let's get out of here."

I got them in our car, and we pulled away with Rachel and Linda behind us.

"Do you always carry knives?" Amy asked from the backseat.

"Pretty much. They attract less attention than shooting someone, and Rachel would have shot him, and then we would have been all over the news, and filling out paperwork, and blah blah blah..."

"You have got to teach me how to do that!" Samantha exclaimed and laughed.

"Honey, I have told you I learned to do that over thirty years ago. It is not as easy as it looks."

"Can I try?"

"I'll see."

"Are you that accurate? To put them in a specific artery?" Amy asked.

"Close enough. You just put those halfway down the joint."

"Geez."

"It takes a lot of practice...a lot. That was what I spent a lot of time doing during the summers with the boys when I wasn't being instructed."

"Where else is a good place to stab someone?" Samantha asked.

"If you are grabbed from behind, in the cleft of the leg and groin. Or, the inside of the upper thigh. Either of those places, stick it in deep and lift hard. They'll never make it to the ER if you hit the Femoral Artery."

"You're brutal," Amy said.

"No...just efficient You two must learn to be. You will also learn the right type of punch in that area will rupture the Subclavian."

I looked over at Dawn and smiled at her as she smiled.

When we arrived at the hotel around 12:15, all my ladies decided they were tired, and we went to bed early. I had to tell Dawn and Samantha to stop talking about helicopters so Amy and I could get some sleep. I would pay for that later.

*****

We were all up early Saturday. Linda was already in the main room on the phone at 5:30. Dawn wanted to get to the show early. While we showered, Rachel ordered breakfast. By the time we were dried off, the food was in the room.

"The exhibits open at 8:00 in the morning. I wonder how long it will take to get there?" Dawn asked.

"They will be there all week. We can take our time and eat breakfast, then get ready," I said to slow her down. "We don't want to get in a long line."

Linda and Rachel left at 7:00 to ride with Stan and Jeanine so they could be with her helicopter. I managed to slow down Dawn, but she was worrying the hell out of us to leave.

Samantha watched Dawn closely as she pulled on her tight blue jeans.

"What are you looking at, Sam?"

"Just watching."

"Why?"

"I want to see where you put your knives."

Dawn pulled her jeans on and buttoned them and walked over to her suitcase, and picked up four more of her short black throwing knives.

"Come here," she said.

Samatha walked over to her and watched as she slid two of them into each of the back pockets

"Don't they stick you when you sit down?"

"These are only 5 inches, and half that is the throwing end. I slide them as far over to my hip as I can, and that stops it," Dawn said as she showed Samantha.

"I guess you have them to stab someone with too."

"These are no good for stabbing. No handle. If I was that close, I would grab it like this and slash them."

Dawn pulled one out and had the throw handle inside her fist while about two inches stuck out.

"You couldn't do this," Dawn said to Samantha.

"Why not!"

"No place to put them in those skimpy shorts!"

We got ready to leave. Amy made sure Dawn wore her Eagle feathers in her hair since she had been lately.

We went down the elevator and got in the car to leave.

"Dawn, where do you keep your knives when you wear skimpy clothes?" Samantha asked.

"I'll show you one day!"

The traffic was heavy heading to the airport. I hoped I had timed it right because the desk clerk said the parking would be bad and to expect to walk a bit. We sat in traffic for a while as we moved closer to the airport. We arrived and finally found a place to park. It looked like we had about a ten-minute walk.

"Let's go to the Eurocopter exhibit first. I want to see what all we can get on our helicopter," Dawn said.

"I'll bring the checkbook!" I exclaimed.

We walked toward a huge building and stood in line with everyone else. Once inside and picked up a map, we headed to the Eurocopter area.

We walked through all the exhibits slowly and looked until we walked up to the huge Eurocopter exhibits. Linda's helicopter was on the floor, and she was with it. I watched Linda for a minute. She had worn a rather sexy dress.

They had another helicopter in the middle of all their others, covered in a huge black cloth. Most of the helicopters had the blades folded back over the tail. I noticed some media people with cameras and video equipment setting up.

"I don't see one like ours?" Dawn said.

"I'm sure there is one somewhere," I replied.

Amy was elbowing me as we followed Dawn around as she looked.

"There is one...but it is set up as Medi-Vac Ambulance."

While Dawn and Samantha looked over that one, I sent a text to my contact with Eurocopter to tell him we were here. A couple of minutes later, I saw Randy walking up.

"Dr. Smith?" He asked as he walked up to play it safe while we looked in the Medi-Vac.

"That's me?"

"Hi. I'm Randy."

"Good to see you finally, Randy. Dawn, this is the man that Linda and I worked with to get your helicopter scheduled. He is the one you talked to on the phone."

"Nice to meet you, Randy," Dawn said. "Thanks for all the help."

"So nice to meet you, Dawn. So, you are getting the helicopter?"

"Yes...well...we are. I don't see one like it except this one?"

"All the EC-135's going to the US now are Police or Medi-Vac. When you get yours, it will be one of the very few executive types in the US. You are lucky. How are you doing on your license?" Randy asked to change the subject.

"Samantha and I have our VFR ticket and have started IFR training. James just got his VFR."

I introduced Samantha and Amy.

"Great. We are about to have a big unveiling for the media. Why don't you all come and watch? After that, I can sit down with you, and we can go over all the options you want on yours. I think they are getting ready to build it in Germany soon. I hope you want everything on it!"

"I do!"

"I brought the checkbook!" I said and laughed.

"Great! We have some of the options to show you after this."

"Perfect! What are you unveiling?" Dawn asked.

"A very special aircraft!"

He guided us to the front of the crowd and the media standing around to watch the unveiling of the new helicopter.

"Hang out right here for a few minutes," Randy said. "We'll get together after this and get yours ordered."

"Great!" Came from Samantha.

He had us at the front of the crowd as we stood and waited. I glanced at my watch, and it was 10:55. At 11:00, I saw the President of Eurocopter walk out in front of the covered helicopter.

"Good morning, everyone! Welcome to Oshkosh! I am happy to announce today that Eurocopter has a very special unveiling for all of you to see! As you are aware, our twin engine EC-135 has been a huge success in Europe. Now, we will soon begin to fill orders for the US business market. Most of the orders have been for air ambulances and law enforcement. But, today, we are unveiling our Special Executive VIP EC-135 for the US market!"

There was a little applause.

"We built this one-of-a-kind custom show model with every available option on it, and then some! We wanted everyone here at Oshkosh to be the first to see the Mercedes model of our Executive VIP EC-135 twin-engine!"

"This custom show model has a full glass cockpit, full dual-pilot controls, full IFR instrumentation, and even a prototype Air Traffic Avoidance and a prototype Terrain Avoidance System. It is set up as a Luxury VIP 2 plus 2 plus 2 seater. It will be the first unit we have in the US with all these modern equipment innovations. This one is loaded, ladies and gentlemen! You are going to be pleasantly surprised by this helicopter!"

"This helicopter is a very special show model that has been built just so we can show off the quality Eurocopter can produce. It was built to have everything on it so the world can see what we are capable of manufacturing for the small aircraft Executive VIP market!"

"This is a one-of-a-kind helicopter that is also the quietest in its class and probably the safest. Now we are ready for the world to see what we have for the executive market! This EC-135 VIP is modeled after the VIP EC-155 you see sitting there. These will not be ready for delivery in the US for another year or more, but we are ready to begin filling your orders! Still, we wanted everyone to see the future of the small executive helicopter from Eurocopter!"

He turned to look at two guys holding the edge of the cover and pointed.

"Now! Please unveil the future of the small Executive VIP helicopter!" He exclaimed.

Two guys pulled on the covering, and it split and fell off.

"Oh, my, god!" I heard Samantha exclaim.

I heard some gasps from the crowd.

I looked over at Dawn, and she was just standing there with her mouth open. Dawn hadn't noticed, but one of the video cameras had been pointing at her.

The paint job on her helicopter was perfect. It looked more like a photograph and was phenomenal. The pilot's side was to us, and the portrait Crystal had done of Dawn under the pilot's window did look like my photographs. It was a head and shoulders painting of Dawn bare-shouldered. She had her feathers in her hair just like now. What was especially striking was her long black hair and the feathers blowing back. The rest of the detail was incredible and gorgeous.

"...what..." we heard Dawn mumble as she stood there speechless.

"Mrs. Dawn Smith! Surprise!" The President exclaimed.

There was a lot of applause and talking now, along with flashes from the cameras.

The rest of the press had figured out that Dawn was the one on the door of the helicopter and had turned and was photographing her as she just looked.

"Ladies and gentlemen! We want to present the first fully customized VIP Executive EC-135 in the US to Mrs. Dawn Smith! Her husband, Dr. James Smith, commissioned the custom paint job. Let me explain all of this!"

"Dawn is an actual Cherokee Tribal Medicine woman. She and her husband, and another member of their family, have all been working on their helicopter ticket and have completed their VFR, and are starting their IFR training. As I said, the Executive EC-135 is over a year away from delivery in the US. With some arm twisting...we manufactured this special and exclusive VIP model only for Dawn."

"Dr. James Smith had the painting design created to honor his wife and to make her helicopter very special and unique. It depicts a sunrise over the North Carolina mountains near the Cherokee reservation. The artist that designed this outstanding custom scheme also helped paint it over the last month. She has embellished it with other emblems of Dawn's Native American heritage. This may very well be the most fantastic paint job ever on a helicopter!"

Everyone applauded again as they looked at Dawn and the helicopter. Dawn was still just standing there with her mouth hanging open.

"Mrs. Smith did not know her helicopter would be here at the show. We have been keeping a big secret from her! Dawn? Are you ready to take delivery of your new helicopter?" The President asked.

"...uh...sure..." Dawn managed to get out, and the crowd around us applauded as camera flashes went off.

Randy came and got Dawn and walked her up to stand with the President in front of the helicopter.

"So, Dawn. How is the training going?" He asked.

"Uh...I have my VFR ticket...I'm working on my IFR...I don't believe this," she said as she turned and looked a minute.

When she turned back to us, we could see she was crying. She ran from the President and jumped up and wrapped her arms around my neck, and hugged me. I held her for a minute as the press took more photos, and everyone applauded again.

I led her back to the helicopter and stayed with her. She was wiping tears away.

"I understand that two other members of your family are also getting their ticket?"

"Yes...uh...Samantha has her VFR ticket too...and my husband..."

Dawn wrapped her arm around my waist and held me.

"Which one is Samantha?" He asked.

"Me!"

He motioned for her to come and stand with us.

"Samantha, I understand you are in med school and that you are only nineteen?"

"That's right!"

"How easy was it to get your license?"
