This is a rare treat. A semi-direct message from the author of some very immersive and evocative works. I hope you continue to write for as long as you feel you’re able to do so

Ann, im just smiling and nodding ...... Getting older or moving down along the path of life the perspectives are shifting and changes is the only constant in a lifetime, every day ...... So as long as you find it worth to write , as it is for your entertainment in first hand and after publishing for your readers, write and let your fantasy become a kind of reality, reality in the sence of a chapter or tale ..... It should be just for your pleasure! ...... But leaving it all behind, after your lifetime experience, starting with the c64 and jumping up to a workspace with 1 MB or 2 MB with 264 MHz processor for example, just enjoy the new pad you use now for the fact of simplicity ...... And further more about the past, for me it is the standards and the socializing, the art of communication that changed dramatically ..... We had to be out for dating or meeting friends in the 70's or 80's or even 90's and the it wasn't just meeting friends as always a big bunch of humanity was out ...... So writing about those great experience is just making you smile, as it makes me smile thinking about all those event and happenings, fabulous and not in the thoughts "the past was better" no it was just different, for me filled with more quality , but that is my simple mind thoughts ..... Just one think about celebrity tales, im a german for example and my knowledge about past or existent celebs are mearly down to "0" zero and so real life stories are much more interesting with some details about scenerie or cities or art of life at time just real life describtion ........ So wish you all the luck and fun for the next wonderful years and do what your heart & soul is guiding you at

A very thoughtful and interesting piece, Ann. I'm sure you've realised for yourself that "laying down your quill" isn't so easy. I've been there, done that and discarded the t-shirt. Each time you might think: "Well, that's it!" then suddenly up pops that unbidden idea that begs---no, demands---to be written and you're back on the merry-go-round. So don't give up yet, more power to your quill. A Happy New Year to you.

I have followed you, not for 30 years but almost, since the days of A.S.S. and have always found your stories very enjoyable. I like how you build up the stories so that you get "to know" the characters and when the sex begins - well, the erotic situation is already set!

I do hope that you will have inspiration to continue to write and give us all a good, enjoyable time!

With love from a cold and snowy Sweden

Great review and nice to see a fellow author trying their hand across a broad spectrum rather than remaining in one safe channel.

I started reading Ann Douglas stories back on alt.sex.stories and have looked forward to their appearance ever since. There certainly are a few authors here whose stories are more complex novellas, but there are few who are as consistently fun and enjoyable to read. Nice sharing about the process here, too bad we didn't get the story of the time she met a fan while dining at a resort. Thank you Ann D. for all the smiles across the years.

I wanted to say thank you for writing and sharing your stories. I've been a reader for probably almost as long as you've been writing; I don't remember exactly which of your stories I first encountered, but I know it was on a.s.s. back in the early '90s. And I've really enjoyed reading so many of them over the years!

Thoughtful piece

Never a bad time to reflect, but long winters, just past the solstice and a new calendar year coming, make ruminations special. Intervals - in between care-giving, work tasks, and those lovely gaps in everyday life - can be rich ground for sowing, sounds like you've made the most of these opportunities. Sweet memories and a productive Lit career.

I love fanfictions, have read literal thousands of them on many different sites, but barely read any here. There are several reasons, but it boils down to lazyness, accessability/visibility and "bad experiences".

When I search for fanfiction, I can't filter the different genres or fandoms. These are often in the tags, but I can't see the tags immediately; I need to click at least twice more to even know which fandom it is and what kind of erotic content I can expect. I also can't include or exlude specific tags, so I can't search for things EASILY. It's possible, but very badly executed.

Also, fanfiction is in one category with celebrities and parodies, which I'm not interested in. The description of "fanfiction" is "erotic fan fiction about famous people" so fanfictions for movies/books/whatever aren't actually part of it.

Last but not least, I just haven't found enough great fanfictions here that the effort to look for them is worth it.

Compared to AO3 or fanfiction it's just so bad that I don't even bother with it anymore.

Ann, I am always happy when my feed shows a new tale from you. I have personally lost the inspiration somehow, and haven't really gotten it back. Maybe someday it will happen again. Thank you for the glimpse into your backstory, and I look forward to your next!

Thank you for sharing, Ann. I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time and always enjoy seeing your name and new stories appear on my “Latest Activity” page. Hell, I’ve even fantasized about the woman behind the stories although some of the topics you write about (lesbianism) obviously don’t match my tastes! As a contemporary of yours (Class of ‘69) I’ve always appreciated the historical context associated with your stories. That said, any chance you will you now be writing about contemporary themes and experiences? Your 50th High School reunion… the bored grandfather you meet at Starbucks? Please keep writing… and sharing more of you.

Being Bi

Ann,

I would dearly love to see how you handle a realistic story dealing with a bi woman who is married to a man. I have friends in this state and I often wonder how they and their spouses handle this truth. For women with bi husband I would imagine there is worry about AIDS if they step out with a guy. But my friends don't necessarily have open marriages; and yet they still identify as bi. Are there suspicions that a mate is not 'enough'. Is the bisexuality an 'escape clause' that says, "If (when) this doesn't work I've always got that." What does one do in one's head on those days when a mate has been loving but that 'other itch' just hasn't been scratched? Is there ever a guilty 'ticking clock' that says over and over, "I'm loving this right now, but some day *that* just might be much better?"

Perhaps you can point me at stories already written that dig deep into this. If you are still working on them I would love to see something in future that really delves into this; not exactly the 'I cheated with her but I really am committed to you' trope, but rather 'I have this yearning; what are we going to do about it?' Largo

And a very Happy New Year to you also. I enjoy your stories because I"m one of those Senior Citizens (very senior, lol) and can relate to what you write about. The other reason you are one of my favorite authors, is the thought and effort you put into your stories. I can understand slowing down a bit, but please just throw us a bone now and then. Thanks.

I have not commented a lot on your work recently. I would like to comment on stories set in the past. They were our formative years. They may not seem so to many younger than us but they were very good times. The relationships were fresh, passionate, often fleeting, and many stay with us still in our memories. I'm sure we remember things differently than the ones we were involved with might. Our kinks, fetishes, fantasy's, all change and evolve. I enjoy your stories set in our youth. It's good to remember. Keep writing. I always enjoy the time I spend in your mind.

Regarding fan fiction, I don't think I've ever visited that category on lit, I usually go to AO3 for that. You're right that combination with celebs icks me a bit, but even more it's harder to match with fandoms I'm into on here.

I have been one of your many silent followers for many years, and for that I apologize. I realize writers thrive on input and [constructive] criticism, so sorry for my lack of involvement; it is not due to a lack of interest nor of appreciation. I have been following you, on and off, since I first found you on alt.sex.stories. The quality of your writing and the engaging plots and characters always bring me back. At 66, I can appreciate the timelines of your stories and that only engages me more. Thank you, Ann, for all your work, all you have given us and for that which you have yet to provide! /Lee.

Perfect. You answered many of the questions I’ve developed reading your many varied stories. I remain amazed that you can write with such seeming ease, even comfort, in so many venues. History, geography, times/fashion and especially situations and circumstances. Once before I commented on your resemblance to Shakespeare’s easy command of wide ranging topics. Is this Ann Douglas one woman or a committee? I still marvel at your easy and comfortable style for telling such dissimilar stories. Bravo! (Or is that Brava!) You are wonderful in any case.

I enjoy your writing very much. Intelligent, articulate, sensuous and explicit. Although I’m now of retirement age I’ve always had a thing for older women. My younger days often found me in the company of women 20 years my senior, teaching me lessons that I couldn’t have gotten in school.

We seem to be of like mind. It's a grind to put out a coherent story with an interesting plot line. My guess is I probably put in 10 hours per Lit page. So an eight page story, that's 80 hours of work. Readers love to fact check, so if you don't put in the time you're going to get a comment, like in my last story that included a reference to a 1969 Porsche 911 SC, I was corrected that it was either a 1969 911 S or a 1979 911 SC. Or a plot inconsistency. I often will rewrite a story and change a storyline, which requires rereading the entire story to make it consistent. It's a job when the story runs over 100 Word pages.

I second your statement about comments. I love insightful comments, even if it's to point out something I missed. I hate comments that seem dish out gratuitous criticism. I'm not sure what the commentor is hoping to accomplish, other than to make me feel bad after I've so much time writing the story and distributing it for free.

I really appreciate you putting it out there week after week. Kindred spirits.

Thank you.

Hi there Ann, I remember reading some of those BBS stories and then your contributions to alt.sex.stories, I became an avid follower of your writing early on and went on to actively search for new stories you wrote. I have loved the journey. Thank you. I particularly loved your stories where the sex was between two women. I was probably one of those, in the beginning, who in my male chauvinist way didn't expect some to have thought processes about sex similar to those we men have. So you expanded my horizons. I also learned techniques of arousal that I tried later on with my wife, and these had a positive effect on our relationship. I'm just a few years older than you are. Erotica is still a recurring influence in my life. I'm glad I discovered Ann Douglas along the way.

galadriel_fangaladriel_fan3 months ago

Ha! It’s been years since I’ve thought about A.S.S. Your nom de plume feels a bit deja vu-ish, maybe I remember some your earlier work. Ah, who doesn’t miss the days of dial-up? (Answer: no one.)

Thanks for stepping out from behind the curtain for a few minutes to talk with us.

Your thoughts on the era you’re comfortable placing your stories in makes sense - I think there are just periods in our lives that resonate more strongly than today does.

And I’m going to look though some of the fan fiction :)
