Cece and Mark looked at each other. One said, "Please explain what you mean."
Cricket was hugging Dave and then pulled Pam to her side as she talked to her aunt. "I want to wed into this family, if they'll have me. I love them – truly, deeply, and madly. Everybody here is so nice and this is an oasis of spirituality. They don't talk about it a lot, and it's not a cult; they live it every minute of every day. I guess I'm sort of proposing to them with this conversation. They haven't said 'Yes' yet."
Mark asked in a somewhat worried tone, "Do you live here?"
"In that house right behind you," Dave pointed. "I'd be glad to give you a tour."
Mark said, "I'd like that. Cece, why don't you come, too." The suggestion was more of an order than not. He wanted to get away from the crowd around them.
Dave led Cricket's guardians through the core, giving a small tour as he did, pointing out the nursery and kitchen areas, especially. Everyone in anticipation of tours had cleaned up the Prentiss' home, but Dave didn't realize this would be such an important walk through.
When he got to the hall with bedrooms, he explained about Ken and Patti's long-term residency while they waited for a townhouse unit to be built nearby. He explained about their flight schedule and made sure to note that Ken had been the heroic pilot of the 737 that had crashed in Kansas the year before.
At the door to the master bedroom he paused, and just gestured, "And this is our bedroom."
The immense bed was hard to not comment upon. Mark and Cece gawked. "That's ... that's the largest bed I've ever seen."
"It's custom. A set of sheets for it cost about four-hundred dollars, if you're curious. We didn't want to be apart from each other in dreamland."
"And you all sleep there?"
"My four wives and me, yes."
Bea smirked, "And you think you have room for one more?"
"Yes, and we all want Cricket to be that person."

nyteramblerabout 3 years agoWow looks like this will be first comment in a few years......I have enjoyed the story from the first chapter. I think if more people looked at the world and life like Dave and the circle does the world would be much better than it is. I also agree that the Christian church's and others have lost the gist of the msg Jesus was preaching. But not going to argue about that. Thank you for all your time and work for such a well done story. Would hope it is real somewhere.

"Dave said, "I've got Heather for a serious gift, but I also wanted to get something for Rachel, Clarisse, and Ashley."
Bjorn asked, "What condition is Heather's car in?"
"Needs replacement. She's driving the same car she showed up at my place in about four years ago, and it was old and decrepit then. I've been thinking along those lines, but I didn't want to skunk the other grads who aren't in my family."
Grace said, "We were thinking of a new car for Rachel, too."
When Heather was joining the Prentiss family, Pam got a new car and Heather got Pams car, a car in much better shape than the older rust bucket. Not sure which book & chapter number the reference is.

Anonymousover 5 years agoThe description of the 'loosening up' process brought back ... a question posted earlier about how Dave decided that he didn't care if Alice stuck with the billionaire and never returned. That 'episode' dealing with Dave's thoughts on losing his bride did not delve into his thought processes very much ... and I still don't understand how he convinced himself that it didn't matter if Alice cast aside Dave's love and devotion during the years they had been married.
On what did Dave focus?
What made Alice wake up and change her mind?
How did Owen make peace with Dave and the rest of the group after trying to steal Alice from Dave?
