Why was she upset when he went to sleep? And did she really have to have Laurent continue while her son is shocked and stunned/confused and scared?

I doubt that would be the reaction to a guy seeing his mom being railed by thugs. More than likely, he would have left her a note, walked out the door and never return. If that was her reaction to her son finding her creating new diseases, she didn't give a fuck about him.
