I like that you are slowly building the plot, there is no rushing for them reaching that temple. It makes the story a fine piece of fantasy writing.

It also helps the interactions between Alexios and Aphrodisia, I really appreciate that tension between them, they already are close physically, having sex and so on, but it seems that also some different kind of bond between them is being created. Maybe it is reluctant from both sides for now, as they don't want to admit to having any feelings, but there is definitely something deeper. I like that!
