The poor spelling spoiled my enjoyment of a decent story.

There is no such word as "putted".

It may not be the past tense of "to put"

but "putted" certainly exists as a word.

spelling isn't the issue

I suspect that this would mostly pass a spell-checker but, as others have pointed out, "putted" probably isn't a verb appropriate to the action in the story and muscles may get sore but they rarely soar.

An editor would be for your next shot. And a bit more patience (or perhaps patients?) in letting the story develop.
