Yes, it's got a different twist from your usual stuff - and it was fun, if a bit obvious that it wasn't going to end any other way. Perhaps remove the little caveat at the beginning and it will be more a surprise ending. And see about working with an editor - could your narrator get really turned on using his imagination? There are other things he could be saying or doing to indicate that he's caught up in it, which make the ending more of a surprise.
