I have decided to revisit the earlier chapters, mainly because I wanted to see where this story started to grab me and also to refresh my memory because they weren't so memorable.

That feels harsh to say but I think the shortness of the chapter hid your bushel so to speak so that I didn't pay much attention at first. It was desperation for decent legible reading that made me return to see what you done. You write well and clearly but somehow you have become much more creative with your language and your style has become much more engaging, emotive and witty.
