My first thought was to delay claiming the prize as long as possible. They give you a year to claim here, long enough for most divorces to finalize.

The courts may see that as hiding assets, though, so you could still get hammered if she ever filed a claim for her share.

One happy ending: A man in my home town won over $1M after his divorce went through. Then a year later, after a second winner's prize went unclaimed, he got awarded their share. Unlucky in love, lucky in lotto.

Good one. No better way to get us readers invested than presenting a great conundrum. Mine would be keep the ticket and say you found it in the street after the divorce. Not sure it would work. Fun and thoughtful. THANKS

She had him investigated.

He sits across from an elementary school and watches the kids play. That is a big plus. Everyone admires men like that. He would rather give away two million bucks than give his soon to be ex-wife a million. The guy is a great business man and a man of character. Who wouldn't want to marry him?

The prenup may have made more sense if presented as a way to shield the assets from his ex, especially if suggested by his iron grandma lawyer.

To prove your point, a gal I worked with won a million dollars on a scratch ticket. She was going through a divorce at the time and her ex got half. I guess you could say he was the lucky one as he had cheated on her, sought the divorce and still got half. Great story.

True love indeed

Hard to believe that man like Derek actually exists, willing to just give his lottery win to a complete stranger, although for the best reason you can find. Even harder to believe

that women like Bristol could actually be real - so, after investigation, and learning how much of a loser he is at love, she was still prepared to marry him immediately?

... What a goddess!

'Still have to agree with Tajfa, though - rubbing it to the ex would have been cake.

And 'also have to concur with Huedogg2 - Derek might has felt save with his attorney, but she wasn't worth shit if she couldn't find a way for him to walk away with his winning intact. But hey - worked out great anyway.

All your naysayers can all go to hell, for all I care, author, 'cause, in my book, your aim is true and you rarely miss. So keep on shoot em' up.

Reply to probably the most ignorant comment left here by an Anon thus far...

"I look forward to this writer progressing with more intense and imaginative story lines, someday."

... Why wait?

"One Night When the Moon was Black" exists. And it was written by this author.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a more imaginative story on this whole website.

So go read it. And then, eat your words.

To MightyHorny

you did read that he was flirting with Bristol while getting coffee and donuts and the implication was that it was a regular thing SO Bristol wasn't a complete stranger like womeone on the sidewalk that Derek just walked up to and said 'here's the winning lottery ticket'.

It was an entertaining story so it got 5

Good Valentine's Day story

But did the pre-nup protect HIS assets? Like his house and his retirement? And if all she got was 2 million dollars they aren't going very far very fast. He should have given the ticket to his parents. How would his ex ever prove they didn't buy it? Instead he got a wife and 2 kids to raise. BTW - did the kids even like him?????

Great story! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I've read several of your Loving Wives stories by now and many (not all) share a common detail. You seem reluctant to portray an emotional confrontation between the spouses where the cheater comes to understand she (or he) realizes and/or acknowledges that they have majorly screwed up and are much worse off than before the cheating. This may be an uncomfortable scene for you to write or perhaps you simply don't see any value in it. The point is that you've taken your reader on a journey with your main character. If you've done your job well, they have shared in the pain and heartbreak your hero has endured. Maybe neither you nor our hero see any value in this sort of emotional catharsis, but your readers will enjoy a little 'take that, bitch' in the denouement of the story.

AnonymousAnonymousover 3 years ago
Is there a reason why he had to sign a pre-nup?

It was his ticket. His money. Why did she make him sign a prenup? She should've gave him half the winnings and then did the prenup thing. I was confused as hell by this.

A stranger watching kids during their school recess every day?

Probably like most parents, that idea makes me uncomfortable. There is something creepy about a man with that hobby. Some psych testing would be advisable before letting him get near her girls.

SeekingEvaSeekingEvaabout 3 years ago

As a middle-aged gentleman robbed of children by a lying, cheating spouse, I have to say that watching children is in no way "creepy" other than that the media has managed to convince every parent on the planet that all single are pedophilic rapists. As so many men my age are, I was a good man blinded by my love for two monstrous women, and now I'm too old to justify starting a family as I'm more likely to die than see my children graduate college. Half my life was frittered away by two liars, but at least I can find peace watching over my nieces and nephews. How many news stories have you read about a female teacher who has seduced a male student winding up in prison? I suspect you are a mother, but don't mistake female for non-predatory or harmless.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 3 years ago

Good story. Although its missing a part where the ex finds out how well he did.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

He really needed to cross paths with his ex to make this a better story.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

I liked it until she asked for a prenupt, typical woman. Even if your the one that gave them the money their greedy nature will make sure you never get near it again.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

Since it was just a story, you could have made the lottery for QUITE a bit more and then had the marriage announced in the paper so amy could wonder!!!

amygdalaamygdalaalmost 3 years ago

So he had to sign a pre nup against his own lottery money that he gave her. For some reason this character looks like he picked up another selfish tripe like his ex wife.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

How pathetic, the wimp got fuck all from the lottery payment, except a pre-nuptial and woman with baggage

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

Without the pre-nup I'd have called it a 5. WTF was she thinking shielding herself from the guy who GAVE HER his winnings ?

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

On our first anniversary, Bristol gave me an envelope with a bow. “Since the last year proved I can trust you, I got you something truly special.” I opened it, and pulled out pictures of my ex and her lover. They are being kept as sex slaves in Albania. Both are abused by both sexes, and are featured in “rough sex” porn. When they are used up, there will be one final snuff film, titled “What Cheaters Deserve!” My wife is the best! Now I’ll have to come up with something truly creative to do to her ex before our next anniversary. Maybe something involving ants, honey, and the desert.

"If she learns that you bought the ticket," - IF she learns. Who's going to tell her?

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

Liked story overall. A couple points. I don't think an employee can purchase/win a lottery ticket. Also, it would have been good if Amy had gotten some payback for her cheating.

AnonymousAnonymousover 2 years ago

Very nice little feel-good story, I liked it. I can almost understand despising an ex enough to just give away two million dollars rather than share it with the bitch. That’s some pretty powerful hate right there, I think most people’s greed would overrule their hate. Good story, M&M.

That’s why you file for a legal separation at the time of the divorce petition. Protects you from their bills and protects and new income from being shared

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

Good story though it would have been better if it included some suffering from Amy. Even just learning about his better life

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

It was a fairly decent story only if this happened to me I would have waited a few months after the winning lottery ticket was announced before cashing it in. I then give 50-60% to Bristol, kept the rest and immediately moved it out of the country. Then tell both the ex and the courts to go fuck themselves and disappear. At most I'd only have to deal with contempt of court which is only a misdemeanor, not a felony so you can move beyond it range.

That being said asking for a prenuptial when Derek gave her the money was at least to me blatantly insulting; I'd have sent her on her way with a polite but firm no thank you.

In conclusion thank you for posting this story as it actually made me think what I would do if I was in Derek's story; which I find are stories I like.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

I'm sure that the anonymous from a year ago will never see this, but I don't like leaving incorrect comments unanswered...

" I don't think an employee can purchase/win a lottery ticket."

An employee of the lottery itself cannot. An employee of a lottery reseller can.

SorchakSorchak12 months ago

In Canada lotto tickets, excluding scratch tickets, expire one year after the draw date. So Derek could have done the divorce AND waited for a couple of months after before claiming his winnings, without having to give Amy squat.

AnonymousAnonymous10 months ago

Huh? Really? He will give it to a total stranger to avoid the 50% payout. Not sure it matters if he holds onto past the divorce. Amy can clawback for her cut if proven about time of purchase. The total stranger gag makes for a cute story buy highly unrealistic.

AnonymousAnonymous9 months ago

Why the hell didn't didn't she tell her parents that he gave her the lottery ticket? Instead of starting marriage with them thinking he was a con they would have been forever grateful.

AnonymousAnonymous9 months ago

A nice read but without any consequences for the ex wife it seemed kind of incomplete.

Sad to see Helen1899 jumping on the anon bashing bandwagon just because one anon had the temerity to express an opinion that differed from her own.

Good story. One comment: He gave her the lottery ticket. She then claimed it and got the payout. Did she also get the bonus for selling the ticked - to herself? I sort of think that a company’s cash control / auditing / accounting policies wouldn’t allow an employee to do the actual transaction for themself. Would need another employee to accept the $10 cash and hand the other the ticket.

AnonymousAnonymous3 months ago

Nice story. Would it happen in real life probably not. But this is a story and things like this do happen in stories. It would have been nice for them to let the ex know what they did. Purely for revenge but as Bristol said he's a nice guy so why do that. Enjoyed this a lot. BardnotBard
