Great Story! Great Writing! 5 Stars, Ahhhhhh Memories. So far I can't get a story pub with ANY violence what so ever. Maybe a 100 bikers kicking Marc LaValliere in the nuts for taking Linda away from Jim (Feb Sucks - alt ending) is too much? Naaaaa LOL Not even just 50? How about 1 ? Yeah, I'm going to resubmit!c

Superior story right out of the gate! Great job, RG!

This author is typically good in the LW category, but he might find a wider range of plot options in Romance. This particular story was pretty interesting and explored a social dynamic not often found on this site. It will be interesting to see what future contributions might look like. That said, a monarch reigns over subjects, but a person reins in horses, emotions, or violence. And advice/advise…losing/loosing.

If everyone was just like everyone else ... just think live would be so boring and unlivable.

A tale with real-world meaning. Everyone (or almost everyone) has a role to play and the trick is to recognize what that role is and revel in doing it well. 5*

THAT'S the way life should be. Friends who are friends. A wife who loves you for you. The Bear definitely approves. 10 stars, so sue me, I can't count, and it goes in my favorites. I love it. Mrs. Bear loves it. She says it's better than most of the stuff we read here. more, please.

Love conquers all. Two total different people can still love each other. Excellent romantic story!

Self accepted is the one of the keys to a healthy and balanced life. This story sure reflects that principle.

What more can be said about life it is better when we all open our eyes and close our mouth we learn more that way. Good story and good writing. Thanks

I liked this story a lot. There’s more going on here than simply one not being like the other, touching on a few things like the awakening of supressed primal desires in people who intellectually detest violence, and also a sense of community among friends, including Dan’s attitudes to his and Carol’s friends and their attitudes etc. Nicely done and 5 stars.

Wow 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟all the way. This was so much an excellent read and it goes to show that love like a flower can bloom from the most unlikely of places.

You sir have joined a very exclusive club; those authors awarded 5 stars by Overcritical (with whom I heartily agree). Please keep up the good work.

Short, but very well put together. I've read all your stories. Thank you.

What a nice story! You’ve created nice, likable characters, well-developed for such a short story. I’ll have to look up your other work.

Thank you for writing and thank you for sharing your work.

I only read from the Romance category, so this was the first I had heard of you. I liked it. I hope you continue to write in this space. I nearly did panic when he woke up alone. That's when I know that I've invested in the characters, which is not a guarantee on Lit. So thank you for that. Cheers!

I confess!! I had to look up "implied vs inferred". But I do know "advise vs advice". 5***** by the way.

Why was it important to tell us that Dan was Jewish? Or, did you mean to say he was gentle?

DoctorRobert1234DoctorRobert1234over 1 year ago

@Anon

I also noticed the word "gentile". In the context of the sentence, I'm thinking the word he was searching for was "genteel", meaning refined and respectable.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

I stopped reading when you used the word "vise" because it is perhaps the first time I have seen it spelled correctly on LIT. Nearly every other times I have seen the term used it was spelled "vice." BRAVO!

I will go back now and continue reading your flash story.

Bilgerat13Bilgerat13over 1 year ago

Just a short comment on Anon below:

In American English, there are two different spellings to remember:

Vice is typically a noun that refers to a bad habit or certain illegal activities. It can also be a prefix meaning “second in command.”

Vise is always a noun and refers to a tool for holding an object in place.

Of course you could just make your live's easier and use the word VICE for all meanings, the way it is meant to be used.

Not bad...! The recent comments are hilarious! One ought neither subjugate nor subordinate your minds to these pettys, but by study, rise up against these slings and arrows of minor ignorance, conquer them. By your example, others, children even, will follow.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

Fuck me on the idiotic comments. It was a great story about good people, well, except for the slut or should I say " whore ". Help me out, fellow anons.

I work at a top three university (as in top three in the world not just in the US, UK, or any one country). I've mixed with truly smart and genius people and many who aspire to that.

The attitudes displayed are the attitudes and behaviour patterns of the actually smart, as opposed to those who've just been trained to pass exams and therefore have to do down others.

An interesting and nuanced observation of a truly rare phenomena. I think you could have expanded it more.

Enjoyed tge story, although the part about his first marriage wad academic.

I don't know if it was a voice-to-text transcription error or if it was intended but the irony of the statement by Dan, "I'm not gentile like you guys" when it should be genteel made me laugh

Lovely story. Thomas was a stand up guy. MC had to get over his insecurities. I am a physicist. My wife of 31 years is a graphic artist, who also loves to teach art to young children. We have some different hobbies. Who cares? She is my best friend, the love of my life, and the mother of.my two (adult) children. And oh yeah she is still smoking hot, looking 10 years you ger than her age and thankfully though she went through menopause, with HRT, zero decline of our aex life. If anything the reverse. People.fall in love for all sorta of reasons. That fact that I have a PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics studying compact objects like neutron stars and black holes, and ahe has a degree in Graphic Design, had zero negative impact on us forming a relationship. If anything it attracted me to her and vice versa. She is my soulmate regardless of our idiosyncrasies and subtle differences. Wouldn't have it any other way. 5 stars.
