Louisa's shock was tangible. She reached out and turned Steve's face to hers, his finger lifting from the intercom, cutting the audio. She fixed her gaze on Steve's eyes. "Why does she say, 'Etienne--it is you. I know your sweet voice. I want to be with you forever. '" Her voice trembled with disbelief as she took a hesitant step back, then another. --"Mon cher. Etienne--not Steven? Who is she? What is this?" Her questions hung in the air, laden with confusion and apprehension after the strain of dealing with Craig.
The video feed showed the figure at the main door intercom. As if illuminated from within, her form seemed enveloped in a gossamer white haze--a woman in white. It sent shivers down Steve and Louisa's spines as they watched stunned.
