FYI, a petticoat is an under-skirt that would be attached around the waist over a corset, so I was a bit confused when you mentioned it in the context of her breasts. I think the garment you're describing, worn under a corset, would probably be a shift or possibly a chemise.

A wonderful story. So very different and more subtle than much of the fiction here.

I can see how this period might generate all sorts of erotic stories on simpler pleasures compared to today's more open and undervalued sexuality.
