Loved this story. As with all your tales, you're superb at creating an atmosphere of inevitability while still surprisng the reader with the details. Wouldn't mind reading more beauty-treatment-focused MC stories from you, as you have a nice way with scent and sensuality.

One very, very tiny jarring note - would this character think of her own skin as "fawn-colored"? That particular detail racialized her in a way you probably didn't need. But apart from that, this is excellently written as always.
