Perhaps I am not aware of some new developments, but I believe real slavery is illegal in the USA! Is Katie a contract worker sent out by an agency? More explanation of how and why she is in this situation is needed. I like your story's writing style, but if you can revise it to make it a longer story with more background and character development, I will like it much more.
