This is turning out to be a very complicated yet compelling story.

It seems Elaina is the most complicated character in all of this, as villains tend to be. The way she manipulates Jon so subtly is fascinating, and admittedly I feel there is so much more fleshing-out to do for her character before the inevitable conclusion. Whereas Jon is straightforward and likable because he's just like any of us typical guys, it's hard to get a handle on what really makes Elaina tick. We know she's snobbish and obsessed with being appearances and control and being "higher-class", but why exactly?

I am still intrigued by what direction this story intends to take, especially with Beth. While I love a story where the male protagonists nails multiple women, this story, or rather Jon himself, doesn't seem to be the kind to be comfortable with that kind of thing.

In fact, Jon's morals and guilt seem to be getting too much in the way of plot development. I am almost tempted to see factors outside of his control make him "fall". Perhaps this will certainly happen, since I have a hard time seeing how the story goes on otherwise.

Engrossed in this, enjoy the story. I think it's reached an inflection point, you can either string the story along to it's conclusion that Jon takes the path of least resistance and does nothing or real conflict with Jon confronting Elaina about all the issues. Of course it's your story, so you get to decide, but more parties and games playing with the same behavior and no conclusion makes the story lag.

Jon's character is the "healer.doctor" who likes to be around people, less judgemental and not concerned about class and profession. Elaina is the driven, hyper focused specialist, demanding and controlling to the point of obsessiveness. She thinks that her profession places her among a certain class and cares not to associate with

those beneath her. But she wants sex, adulation and gets off on control and Jon doing her bidding.

Carly is similar to Jon, her husband, the stuffy, judgemental academic is similar to Elaina. Perhaps he has the "academic inferiority complex" to Doctors (think they are just as smart, but not as smart or disciplined enough to get into Medical school).

Beth is the typical younger, very pretty woman, who has some self-worth issues and needs to find a loyal and worthy man, who reciprocates. Jeff and Grace are the real model couple, with love and affection, communication and kids. Elaina is impressed with Jeff (her kind) Grace, his wife, not too much.

Waiting to see if/how Jon, really confront Elaina and they have that "come to Jesus meeting" about their engagement. Jon is not sold, otherwise there would not be the urges for intimacy and sex with Carly.

Thanks for such a good story.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm amazed and grateful for the response these stories are getting.

That said, I'm worried I might have underestimated the amount of character development I had achieved at this point, based on some of the responses. In which case, (and as a slight spoiler) the next chapter and a half might feel like a BIT of a slog. Not that nothing happens, but if you're expecting redemption to be right around the corner, things still need to get worse and build up for a bit more here. If you're already fed up with Elaina, then that's good, but she's not yet fully become what she's going to be. I know things are progressing in somewhat-repetitive waves of escalation, but I hope you can bear with me through a bit more of it before the breaking point hits, and then the plot will take a turn from there.

Thanks again for reading.

It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion. You can sense the things that are about to happen but you can't look away because it's captured your imagination and attention. Well done.

Frodov (below) has hit the nail on the head - exactly what I feel!
