Shannon has to be the cruelest and/or stupidest wife on the web. For her to claim her undying love for her husband and then to be in bed with another woman as a 'surprise' is just unbelievable at that point in their relationship. Any normal person would understand the tenuous nature of things and would have been walking on eggshells. Instead she slaps her husband in the face with another affair. No, this story has gone too far. It exceeds the realm of reason.

Introducing another lover to Jeff is a real slap in the face. What is she supposed to be able to explain. She's a lesbian and that's still a seperation from Jeff being her ONLY love.

Extremely well written story with great plot development and good character study, but I have to agree with previous comments . One of the most depressing stories I've read . Typical vindictive wife tells stupid husband that she plans on screwing in revenge her his screwing secretary. If dumb husband doesn't agree to this ,she'll divorce him and take everything . Assuming you believe any husband is stupid enough to agree with plan, it's impossible to believe that husband would go along for 3 months.After three days wife no longer has any leverage and normal husband would kick lover out and discuss divorce with wife. A very good story, of a man who never learned to "keep his pecker in his pants..." Its a character flaw to not learn from one's mistakes (apart from the obvious). The central mistake--she gave him an ultimatum twice--each time he gave in. The first was when she wanted the affair in the first place. The second, when she said--let's solve this and get back together or end it. He has to know that this cannot be good--the pattern is unchanged. She cannot be trusted to make good decisions for them; so why follow her and the path she wishes to set? At the moment of truth, if he quietly says: "Ultimatums, again." The dynamic then changes. The way it unfolds, she is the active one; he should just tell her to cool her jets--"end it, if that is what you want..." "Or live with ambiguity for a while longer, impatient wife.." I know this all ends up happily ever after, but the multiple attempts that the author makes to get it to work in different stories, suggests that he is beating his head against a wall--a wall of his own choosing. The husband is a weak willed individual. If he wants a different outcome, he has to show that the man has learned--and he never really does... he muddles on through--like everyman, I guess.

You know, for a husband the negative social and legal consequences of wifely infidelity are far more serous than the reverse. What a bunch of crap, but very typical of the past 30-50 years in this fucked up, man-hating multiculted "society." Page two was as far as I could go without vomiting my lunch.

The story was not badly written. But who is "Luke?" Jeff is making love with Shannon and then "Luke" appears? I think perhaps another story's character got mixed up in this story. Jeff's reconciliation with Shannon seems to happen too easily. It does not matter that mistakes were made. 5 years is a very, very long time. It is irrelevant that Shannon decided not to divorce Jeff while he was hiding from his shame. Jeff went 5 years and 3 months believing Shannon did not love him (I believe that too, based on what she did with Alan). Now it was all a mistake, Shannon felt so badly for what she did, and Jeff deep down still loves Shannon so boom, they get back together with a bit of counseling? Has Jeff gotten another job yet? Not mentioned. Has he found any way to respect himself again? No real evidence of this. Getting back together with Shannon who is now a successful executive, more educated, a martial artist, very confident, well, I just don't buy it. She has changed, he has changed, and it is unlikely that they would really have anything in common any longer. I see no way for Jeff to have been an equal in a rebuilt relationship and I think it much more likely he would have just moved on. The plot is just not plausible. This story seems to want to force some type of happy ending down our throats and it really does seem forced. And why does nothing happen to Alan for setting Jeff up via Alan's cousin? OK, I guess he got fired eventually but that's all? Not much of a moral in this yarn, and Jeff has remained wimpish . . .

You have excellent writing abilities. However, your story line was just too unbelievable. I'd disown my family if they broadsided me like his did. He had no need to get together and discuss anything. Frankly, I cannot understand a man cheating but then I don't drink. However, if I did, I would not have agreed to let my wife have an affair to "even" it out, we'd just have gotten a divorce. Two wrongs do not make anything right. I can understand his leaving after months of torment. But, why return as a bum? Since he had marketable skills, he should have had a job, even a low level one to pay for the basics. In the second the whole business of the secretary being related to Alan got weird, the characters of the family became a bit weird, the dialogue was stilted due to sentence fragments, and the pot was less believable than the first. I’d read more if it were written like the part of the story before his return home.
