While the storyline was good, it would be improved if you made the storyteller/narrator consistent. Sometimes, the narrator is writing in the first person (I, me, we, us, etc) and at other times he is writing in the third person (he, she, him, her, they, them or calling them by their names). When you switch from the first to the third person, the reader gets distracted wondering if there are more people in the car.
