What is it with the trains?

The author might just be a train buff, who knows? Interesting little story letting a few things out. Surely Cindy's old lady cannot be Elizabeth? Don't think so as Don recognised here. Perhaps I'm wrong about Newton but that might be a double bluff. And Woodburn, where does she fit in to all this? Morecquestions than answers here.
