In my headcannon so far, this is the origin story for the antagonist of The Addicted Natural. Either the doc or Joe. But it'll probably contradict that too strongly before long. (It's been years since I read that story, so it probably already has without me realizing it.)

Either way, I'm loving it, and hoping the good doctor gets his action soon!
