A different story from H57. Touching base with life.

Great story, very touching. Not sentimental at all, but kind and beautifully written. Thank you.

AS a cancer survivor I had to add this story to my Favorites first. Now I offer you my heartfelt gratitude for offering this wonderful prose of love and commitment. It was so professionally written that I'm going to read it again soon just to get that feeling of contentment. Thanks

What a gut wrenching story, All the way through you felt his pain at not being with her, then when he gets her she is taken away.

Just feeling a little broken. Well done Hooked

5 Stars for sure . I dated a Girl named Kathy who was also my best friend and Gay . She hated Doctors so they found the breast cancer way to late to worry about . Damn I hate Cancer and what it does to people and their loved ones

Giving it low ratings. Because loss is real in our lives. Write something a bit more upbeat next time?

crazymike45crazymike4512 months ago

Heartbreaking story but one of the best written I've read on this sight.

AnonymousAnonymous12 months ago

Contrary to your bio, there's nothing average about your writing! Another 5 star story. Sad, but passionate. Like Randi and Cadivagirl, who are obviously fans of yours, you are among the best of the best!

Please keep writing. Thank you for sharing.

This is a deft and lovely story. Thank you for it.

If you ever revisit it, you might take a look at one word? When Cat first understands her own sexuality, you describe it as her "decision." Try on the word "realization"? Nothing about her character or genuineness suggests she had what felt like a choice about who she was. That's part of why her relationship with the narrator is so magical.

AnonymousAnonymous12 months ago

Damn. Must have something in my eye. Wow. Hits you in the gut. One of the author's best stories.

To Hooked1957, do you have a fetish in making your readers cry. If you do you must be really getting off after the comments on this story! I am 75 years of age and cried like a baby, no onions, no pollen, no dust. This was probably the most beautifully written story on this site and yes I have favourited it. It would be top of the list of favourite stories if I knew how to do it. There are some people commenting that no one would put their life on hold over a gay woman. He was totally in love with her and couldn't move on and when he did it really went well didn't it. (NOT) Life sometimes sucks and then you die, hopefully I will be around to read many more of your stories. Thank you so much for your storytelling ability. Mel B known as Hornydevil47

Just a lovely story.

The MC wasted his life on a woman who used his love as a crutch.

No family, no children, no legacy, what a wasted life.

StruckwrongStruckwrong9 months ago

Forest Gump without the nuance or heroic overlay.

AnonymousAnonymous9 months ago

First off, what did this have to do with loving wives? Secondly, she used him his entire life. What a waste of a life.

EastCoaster1EastCoaster19 months ago

2nd read... still the same 5-star love story.

Jerry Lewis was asked one day about his involvement in the MDA telethons, and his work with ttelethon,

His answer was succinct, and elegant: "...for those who understand, no explanation is necessary, for those who don't, no explanation will suffice."

Yes, this is a "Loving Wives" story, and a very good one.

What a cheap shot - good old cancer tearjerker. Almost never fails. Just as good as a kick to the crotch. Shoulda made it ovarian cancer, if you wanted a real waterfall...

AnonymousAnonymous7 months ago

I love your stuff, but this is an awesome departure from Traci. This is also one of the best pieces on this website. Brutally emotional. I know it’s just fiction, but I was heartbroken reading it. Tearful even. But Cat was right, worse case would have been to never have come together at all. 9 blessed years. His heart finally got what it wanted.but Julian thought it didn’t last long enough. But then there’s that spot she was saving for him.

For some reason this thought experiment came to mind as I read the conclusion of this submission: I envision a parallel story in which the MC is a lesbian female who is hopelessly in love with her female best friend who, unfortunately for the MC, is sexually attracted to men. The friend marries but is betrayed by her husband leading to a divorce with no children involved. The friend subsequently develops a life threatening illness which the MC helps her to survive by devoting all of her free time to caring for the woman she loves. In the aftermath of her recovery, the friend realizes she has romantic and sexual feelings for the MC, and they eventually marry. Sadly, they only share a little less than 10 years of married life before the spouse develops another life threatening illness which this time proves fatal. Is this story just as sweet? Does it tug at your heartstrings just as strongly?

Excellent. So sad but as Cat said, they had 9 good years as a couple and 40 plus years as best friends. Really liked the part where Julian first told Cat she was beautiful.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 months ago

Onions? Dust? Allergies? Bright lights? Nope the reason I'm crying is because you wrote the perfect love tragedy and love story. Even second time around this made me tear up and I'm real good about letting people know that this bloke can shed a tear when it's appropriate. BardnotBard

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 months ago

A real tragedy. A boy, who was raised by both his own and his friend's mom to be henpecked wimp. He apologize for not doing anything wrong. To accept being slighted by his so called best friend when the mood hit her, to give without ever expecting anything back. It's not a beautiful relationship in the least, but absolutely unhealthy. And no dad, no brother, no uncle or male friend acted as a male role model.

Pining away for years and years instead of carrying on with his own life, raising children. The two MCs could still have stayed friends, you know? This whole lopsised relationship was more of an obsession from his side, not love. I'm glad that reality is different, that we are able to accept when feelings are not reprocicated and to move on.
