It is just the time interval is confusing. He was 36 and had been gone from the island for 18 years, but has a daughter 18 years old. Yet his girlfriend and kids did not know about the island. Now he must have been less thsn 18 when they started at the island. What's more he never told his gf and kids that he was gone to marry an 18yo girl. What a b he is, feel for his gf stuck with his progeny.
