I can see this story going in many ways. For example, Billy becomes a dominant person in the house. He and his mother become exclusive as well as making Rex feel small. Billy and Mom could do it all day every day including forbidden places like the kitchen table. After all Mom made the promise not Billy.

I could see Mom getting pregnant pretty quickly and how that changes the family dynamic.
