"about a month apart" is why I seldom start a multipart story until it's completed. By the time the next part arrives I've forgotten what took place previously. That's just me, other's mileage may vary.

BTW, it's try TO. And, being a conjunction, implies that two or more actions took place. In this case to try, and, to save their friends. One cannot merely try, one must try TO DO something. Verbs are formed with to, to eat, to sleep, to walk, to try. One cannot say, I'm going and eat a sandwich. Simple as that.

Nothing personal, this usage shows up a lot. I blame the teachers for taking the easy way out and failing to correct this early in elementary school.

I've read some of your other stories and enjoyed them so I'll keep my eye out for part 40.
