Ch.3 - At the Cafe

(This chapter picks up after Anna had visited Adelina earlier in the day at her apartment where Adelina introduced Anna to two mysterious twins, whom with they engaged in an intense sex session.)

David lifted me up on all fours and took me from behind that night. It wasn't my favorite position, but I didn't want to see his face while he fucked me. I felt a sudden aversion to his touch, his smells, the vulgarity of his penetration of me. I longed for Adelina, her way of pleasuring me, her mysterious charisma...her ability to exhibit control. The session with the twins earlier that morning still burned in my mind. It was freaky, but I wanted more. I heard David groan, then his cock spasmed inside me. I faked an orgasm then collapsed on the bed. He fell down next to me.

"How was it, baby", he whispered, while trying to catch his breath.

"Wonderful..." I kissed his forehead, then exhaled, "...as always." He kissed me on the mouth, then I rolled over and drifted off to sleep thinking about Maja.

"So why don't you start getting into figurative photography?"Maja asked me during one of our late night incense burning chats. "You mentioned it was something you always wanted to do." It was mid-May and I think we were both enticed by the potential of having more free time ahead when the term ended.

"I don't know, I guess I never had anyone to model for me. I mean....I'd like to do something sexy like boudoir."

"Well, perhaps I can help you with that."

"Really? Like how?"

"Like me, I'll pose for you."

"You sure? That would be great, but only if you're comfortable with it." After I said that, I realized how ridiculous I sounded. Of course she would be comfortable with it. The way she had no problem showing herself to me in the apartment should have come as no surprise to anybody.

"Of course I am. As long as we're discreet."

"But where? I don't have access to a studio or anything that would make for a good backdrop."

That is when she told me about her parents' place in Spain, on the coast just south of Malaga. Stone patio with an ocean view, jacuzzi, and plenty of privacy. We can go there for a long weekend. Are you sure your parents won't mind? No, not at all. Tickets to Malaga are cheap these days. When do you want to go? Let's look at the calender, two weeks from now? Perfect.

The idea of the trip excited me in many ways. First, who wouldn't pass up an opportunity to stay for free at a private villa on the coast of Spain? And second, wasn't this idea of a nude photo shoot her way to ease us closer into a physical relationship? Would we not feel freer and more uninhibited in an exotic location far away from the constraints of our everyday life here in Gothenburg?

Sun poured in through the windows when I stumbled into the kitchen to make coffee. I had pulled on a pair of light blue panties and a white ribbed tank top sometime during the middle of the night. David was sitting at the kitchen table and seemed to be staring at my tits.

"It's a little cold in here, is it?" he asked with a sly grin.

I looked down at my hardened nipples pushing out through the thin cloth of my tank top. "Oh, shut up." I fake-slapped him. He ducked and let out a phony laugh.

I went over to the counter and started to make the coffee. "What a gorgeous day today. Mind if I head out and do some photography?"

"You and this photography, what are you going to do with all the pictures you take? Photography doesn't sell, does it? I mean, everybody's a photographer these days with their iphones, how do you make your pictures stand out?"

"By taking good pictures that are better than everybody else's," I shot back. David gave me one of his looks. "Look, I'm not interested in making money, I do it as a hobby, for me. The pictures only have to mean something to me. I need something that gives me an escape from my humdrum life." Oh my god, what did I just say?

"So, you're bored with your life. Does that also mean you're bored with me? Our life together?"

"That's not what I said."

"That's exactly what you just said."

"Listen, David. I hate my fucking job, I hate the travel, I hate all the boring, uninspiring people I have to deal with. I'm not interested in property market valuation or fucking risk analysis any more than I am with your goddam vinyl record collection and all the fucking has-been bands that you listen to."

"Pull yourself together will you! What did I do? How is this about me all of a sudden?"

I sat down next to him and grabbed his arm. "Oh god, I'm sorry I said that." I pulled him close and continued, "I'm just under a lot of stress right now, I'm sorry."

"Anna, just chill, okay. It'll be alright. Just settle down."

"I think I need to go for a walk."

"Sure."

There was a loud skid as my chair slid back from the table and I ran into the bedroom to get dressed.

I picked up my phone and texted Adelina, "Can I see you today? Coffee or lunch?..really need to talk....Anna"

Her reply came in less than a minute, "Sure, want to meet about 1300 at Cafe Materia near Mariaplan?"

I typed back, "I'll be there...see you soon!"

Her response, "Ciao!"

The thing about having an affair with another woman was you never had to worry about being seen in public. For all anyone knew, we were just two friends catching up. So when I saw her standing just inside the door of Cafe Materia waiting for me, I had no reservations about being seen by someone I knew. As soon as she saw me, her face lit up with a smile. "So nice to see you," she embraced me with a warm hug. Her hair smelled like it had just been washed. It radiated a spicy, exotic scent, I couldn't exactly identify it, but I found it very pleasant.

"Yes, me too," I replied, taking in her essence.

"Let's order something, shall we?" she said, leading us to the counter. We were greeted by a thin girl, 20-ish, with braided blonde hair pulled back exposing a shy face. Adelina looked at the list of menu items hand written in white chalk on a dusty blackboard. "I'll take the roasted red beet salad with honey vinaigrette dressing... and a French Roast coffee, please," she informed the counter girl who registered the order on a greasy digital tablet with long thin fingers. I took note of her silver thumb rings and Bottega Veneta leather wristband--dead giveaways that she was one of those wannabe hipsters--since real bohemians generally had an aversion to anything bourgeois. After Adelina ordered, she looked up at me with that "what can I get you?" look, telling me it was my turn. From the small rectangular piece of plastic pinned to her white shirt, I could see that her name was Amelie.

"Mmmm, that sounds good. I'll have the same, but with a lemon tea, please."

She smiled, then danced her fingers around the smudged surface of the tablet.

"I'll pay," Adelina piped up.

"No, you don't have to," I countered.

"I insist, you seem to have something on your mind, let me get this. You can pay next time."

"If you insist," I smiled back.

The blonde pushed Adelina's coffee and my tea across the scarred wooden counter and said, "Here are your drinks, but the salads will take a few minutes. Go ahead and take a seat and I will bring them out to you."

"Sure, no problem," Adelina smiled at her. She held Adelina's gaze for a moment, then turned to help the next customer. We headed for the seating area.

"So, what prompted your message this morning?" Adelina asked just as soon as we sat down. I stirred my tea and thought about how to start.

"I blew up at David this morning."

"I see," she said, raising the cup up to her lips the same way she did last Saturday when she looked at me from across the table while I sat next to the twins. "What prompted it?"

"It was my fault I guess. I gave him the indication that I thought our life was boring."

"But it's true, isn't it? I told you right off the night I met you I knew you and your boyfriend weren't exactly happy."

"Yeah, I think your exact words were, 'You and your boyfriend aren't getting on, are you?'"

"You have a good memory." She took a long sip from her coffee then put it down then looking at me with a sly smile.

"I mean, I shouldn't have said what I said to him."

"What did you say?"

"I said that I am bored with my life, but I really meant that I was bored with my life, since I hated my job, I was sick of the travel, and I feel like I'm not doing what I want to do. He took it to mean I was also bored with him."

"But aren't you?"

I sighed. "I don't know."

"So, what kind of work do you do anyway?"

"I'm a junior property analyst for a corporate real estate firm. I do value assessments and risk analysis on potential real estate buys for corporate clients around Europe."

"Sounds interesting."

"It's not. It sounds sexy, but the details of the work are actually pretty boring. Plus, I'm getting tired of the travel."

"So, what do you do by the way?" I reciprocated.

"I'm a legal assistant at Bodenhem Lindberg. I work with a bunch of lawyers."

I nodded. I remembered my dad used to deal with that firm, one of the more prestigious law firms in the city, I remember him mentioning them when recounting his day to mom during dinner.

"How's your sex life with David?"

"Okay, I guess." She obviously didn't want to talk about her job.

"You're lying."

"Is the candle of truth burning in here or something?" I looked around pretending to scan for the thick red candle that sat next to her couch.

"Okay, so sex with him sucks. If you'll excuse the pun."

I looked down at my coffee trying to hold back a laugh. "Oh my god, Adelina."

She reached for my hand and joined me in the laugh. Just then, the blonde counter girl approached with our salads.

"Here you go," she said, placing the glass bowls down in front of us.

"Thank you," we both replied almost in unison.

"Such a cool bracelet," Adelina said to her as she pulled back her arm.

"Thanks," she replied in a high-pitched, almost girlish voice.

The girl backed up a little and looked as if she was about to ask if we needed anything else when Adelina continued, "Love the rings, too." The girl cupped her hands together close to her chest as if hiding them. She seemed flattered by the compliment, but also a little embarrassed.

"Thanks."

"Thank you....Amelie," Adelina replied as the girl started to turn away. Adelina stared at her with a penetrating look. She held Adelina's gaze for a second, then looked quickly at the ground and left.

"Adelina, what are you doing?" I asked with a slight laugh after she left.

"Just flirting a little, are you jealous?"

"Maybe." I was joking, but not really.

"Well, David will get over it," she said, continuing with our previous subject. "You just had a bad moment. Just show him a little extra something in bed tonight."

I tried to avoid her eyes and looked over her shoulder at the other patrons in the cafe. It was the usual Sunday morning Majorna crowd, a blend of wannabe musicians, poets, painters, and yuppie alternatoffs. I watched with fascination how the bearded 40-ish man with a gray turtleneck and round black-framed glasses sat on the couch against the wall and balanced a plate on his knee while he gingerly cut up small pieces of stuffed mushroom then delivered them to his mouth with short, crisp, flicks of his fork. Why the hell didn't he utilize the table right in front of him? All that was missing was a paper copy of the American New York Times in front of him.

"So, you can't do it more, can you? You're either not interested in him or you just don't like dick any more, which one is it?"

"I have no fucking clue." I focused my attention back to Adelina.

"It's always like that. After the first time."

"And what about you? Are you still into men?"

"Why not? If it's the right man. Sure."

"I guess I just need to get used to this."

"It takes time."

It felt good to talk to her. Although I really didn't get any clear answers to my dilemma, just having her to talk to helped me get over this morning. Not sure how I was going to react to David when I got home, but I decided it to not fret over it. I'd just roll with whatever mood he was in when I walked into the apartment.

"Oh my god, Adelina, we have to get out of here!" I blurted out all of a sudden.

"What? Why?"

"I'll explain later, just please, let's go."

I couldn't believe it. I didn't recognize her at first with the short haircut, but it was Maja. She was standing there at the counter ordering. I should have known that if I hung out in Majorna long enough I'd eventually run into her. She seemed to be alone, but she could have been meeting someone. I didn't want to know. I put on my coat and prepared to leave, but Adelina was just sitting there wondering what the hell had gotten into me.

"Adelina, I need to get out of here quick, just meet me outside, okay?"

"Okay," she said, still confused. I shuffled quickly towards the door, turning my face away as I passed the counter. When I got outside, I walked a few meters down the road, away from the front windows of the cafe. It seemed as if I had made a clean escape. Minutes went by and Adelina still hadn't come out. I wondered what the hell she was doing. Was she fucking with me? Finally, just as I was about to go into panic mode, the door opened and she walked towards me with a look on her face as if she was about to apologize for something.

"Sorry I took so long. What was that all about? Did you see an ex-lover in there or something?"

"Something like that," I replied. "It's complicated, I'll explain it to you someday."

"It must be one hell of a story the way you bolted out of there."

"Kind of. But, what took you so long? I was getting freaked out."

"Freaked out that maybe I ended up bumping into Ex-Lover and having a chat or something?"

"Adelina, I'm serious." I said laughing.

"You don't sound serious."

"You're mad, you know that?"

"So I've been told."

"I really thought you were fucking with me."

"Well, if you really must know, I was talking to Amelie."

"The girl who waited on us?"

"Yep."

"What did you talk about?"

"I convinced her to meet us when she gets off work at three. Here, let's start walking."

"You what?"

"That's right, Miss Look-at-My-Cool-Rings-and-Bracelet is coming over to join us at my apartment to hang out later."

"How did you manage to do that?"

"The same way I got you to follow me home last Saturday night. I asked."

"Fair enough," I sneered, then noticed the tram stop appearing ahead. "And I suppose it worked that way with the twins, too?"

She dropped her eyes then fell silent. "The twins are another story," she replied after a moment. " Come on, let's make the next tram. You're game for this, aren't you?"

"Sure," I replied, then quickened my pace to match hers.

Adelina reached for my hand as we climbed the stairs of her apartment. My heart raced at the anticipation of being with her again. It was a little after three in the afternoon, and the cafe girl, if she was actually going to come, would be here soon. I should have texted David letting him know I was alright, but I didn't want to disrupt the moment. We pushed through her apartment door, threw off our coats and kicked off our shoes, then fell onto the couch where we clawed at each other. God, how I missed the feeling of her, the taste of her mouth, the softness of her flesh, the way she touched me. But I was going to be careful this time, I wasn't going to let the same thing happen to me that happened with Maja. This time I was going to be in control. I had this.

After a few minutes of passionate kissing, she pulled down my tights and started to finger me. I grabbed her head and pulled her lips harder into mine. I dug my tongue deep into her mouth in an attempt to savor every bit of her. A stream of thick saliva ran down my chin just as it had done during my first teenage make-out sessions. In some ways it felt like the same thing.

Adelina's mobile phone dinged prompting her to stop. "She's here!" She sounded surprised, as if even she wasn't sure if the girl would show up. She pulled her fingers out of my cunt then stood up. "Take a deep breath and put yourself back together. We'll continue this later."

I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand then pulled up my underwear and tights. My pussy was soaking wet and I tried to subdue the frustration of a sudden stop. I straightened my hair and tried to slow down my breathing. The whole episode made me feel juvenile, like I was getting walked in on by my parents. Adelina picked up her phone and looked at the screen."Yep, it's her." She tapped out a quick message then buzzed her up. I sat up on the couch, trying to act all innocent. Adelina opened the door slightly and I heard footsteps echoing in the stairwell. Adelina opened the door wider and stuck out her head. "Amelie," she called out.

There was a faint "Hi" in response.

When she came through the door, she had the nervous look of someone arriving for a job interview. I stood up.

"This is Anna, the friend I was telling you about," I stuck out my hand, she grasped it tentatively and we both said, "Hi." Her movements were quick and jerky, I could tell she was uncomfortable. "Have a seat, I'll get you something to drink. Water, coffee, juice....?"

"Just some water please," she squeaked, then took off her coat. Adelina hung it up on the hooks next to the door then disappeared to the kitchen. Amelie sat down on the couch and I joined her. I looked at the rings on her thumbs and the twisted leather band around her wrist. She reflexively brought her hands up to her chest just as she did in the cafe. Adelina's earlier comment no doubt made her self-conscious about her chosen adornments, as if she had become instantly aware of her lack of confidence to pull them off. Adelina was definitely the maven of mind fuck.

I looked at her and smiled. She had a petite, Naomi Watts-like prettiness to her, but her deep blue eyes held a kind of forlorn sorrow, like she was longing for something. It was the same kind of impassivity I saw in the twins. I curled my hand and caressed her cheek. "So, how was work?" I asked.

"Fine, just a little tired." she took my hand in hers and nestled it against her cheek.

"What time did you start?"

"Seven-thirty."

"Ugh, that's early," I said, trying to give her a little empathy. Adelina appeared before us with a tall glass of water.

"Here you go," she said softly. Amelie took it then gulped it quickly like she was trying to calm their nerves with a stiff cocktail. She pulled the glass away then took a deep breath.

"Thank you," she whispered.

"You're welcome," Adelina replied. "You look stressed...don't be," she continued while sitting down next to her. This girl no doubt must have had an idea of what she was getting into when she agreed to come cover. Adelina started to caress her cheek. She had that lingering food scent that seemed to permeate the clothing of every cafe and restaurant worker making them smell like walking kitchens. The scent of onion dominated.

"Just a little nervous." She took another drink of water.

"That's okay," Adelina whispered gently. She slipped into an incredibly affectionate tone that was almost genuine. "Come," she commanded, while holding her hand to help her up. Adelina led her into her bedroom and I followed. Her giant bed almost filled the entire room. It was becoming clear to me why a single woman had such an over-sized bed--it was her playground. Adelina stood by the bed holding both of Amelie's hands and smiled deeply into her face with those dark Romanian eyes. Her right eyebrow had a tendency to raise higher than the other giving her an extra air of authority. "Do you want to kiss me?" Adelina asked her in a soft, airy voice.
