We bought a cottage on a lake, about two hours drive from home, as a place to escape to for the summer months. We began renovating and expanding it to make space for seven active and growing children.

In hindsight I am a very lucky bastard. A disastrous marriage was ended and a new one began, all in the space of two years. What was a very difficult time for me and my children, when Victoria decided to leave us for someone else, turned out fine when I was lucky enough to find a wonderful woman that I could love and that loved me and the kids.

Every morning, as we began the organized chaos of life with a large family, I took a moment to be thankful for the good fortune that I had when I met Charlotte and her girls and now with two more to make our life complete. Our kids all got along, and we were a family. And my wife was the hottest woman I knew.

As for Victoria, her life was what she made of it. She and Henry fizzled out not long after our divorce. Seems that Henry was mostly interested in screwing married women, and not long after, he left Victoria for another woman that he had coaxed away from her husband.

Victoria continued to work as a book editor and moved to a one-bedroom apartment that she could work from. I heard that she was dating but other than that I didn't really know much about her life.

Once when Charlotte and I were out with the kids, while she was pregnant with the twins, I was sure that I saw Victoria downtown walking somewhere. She couldn't miss us walking as a gaggle with the older kids holding the hands of the younger ones. We didn't stop to talk to her at the time. I know she was watching us as we walked by. She might have been thinking that it could have been her walking with the kids. Maybe she was thinking that she was glad it was not her having to look after children and a husband. Who knows for sure?

As for me, well I'm just glad I have a wonderful wife and all those kids. I wouldn't trade them or my life for anything.

Enjoyable but the selfish wife was too oblivious? If you're going to be like that, just get divorced. Thank you for adding the romance with Olivia, it would have been a difficult story to read without a happy ending for Will.

I would have liked to read a more tragic or lonely outcome for Victoria. She continued to date and was quite active as a unicorn in progressive adult lifestyle circles but never had a relationship lasting more than a few months. There was very little emotional fulfillment in her life but there were plenty of sexual highs. Life and sex had become so detached from happiness that Victoria seriously considered becoming a prostitute. Sadly that decision was taken from her during a lonely Wednesday night. Home alone and feeling sorry for herself, she went out to the Freaks and Geeks fetish night at the Paradise lounge and dove head first into the dogpile. When she emerged a couple hours later she had unknowingly contracted a nasty STD that forced her to seek out partners sharing the same condition. Victoria's only options are both a form of salvation, saving herself with counselling and treatment, or ending the pain once and for all. (I'd like to think she found her way back to something positive instead of heavy tragedy. she's an idiot, but no one should end their life when they can have a second, third, fourth, fifth... chance)

barely half way and Victoria is a shitty wife and Will is too accommodating.

Any man who works a 60 hour week and thinks his sex life is full and satisfying is riding for a fall. That seems to have been the start of Will's troubles.

I get that this author doesn't like toxic masculinity in his characters but Will has to carry his share of the blame for the emotional distress experienced by the children because of his failure to put his foot down long before he actually did. His lack of moral fibre enabled Victoria's destructive behaviour and enabled her to continue down a path that had the potential to damage the children's emotional development. I'm not saying that he needed to go caveman on her but he had a duty to draw a line in the sand and say "Enough is enough".

\

Will's failure to address the lies and deceit with which this 'open marriage' BS began also left a rotten taste in the mouth because in failing to call Victoria out on it he gifted her a sense of empowerment, a sense that she'd put one over on him, gotten away with it and could therefore do whatever she liked and he would just roll over. In being so 'reasonable' he merely showed himself to be weak and unwilling to meet a threat to his family head on and deal with it.

The MC has severe mental issues. The divorce should have commenced at the request for an "open marriage". Her definition permission to fuck around.

2 stars for the MC being a pussy about putting up with that crap in the first place.
