What a beautifully written story about a weird lady and her saviour. Love it!
excellent writing. if you aren't neurotic, then this is a true masterclass on method writing. even if you are, it doesn't matter, because the character's motivations and intentions don't change throughout the story.
what so many writers forget is that a good idea is great for developing a story, but when they stray from that core idea, the story falls apart. you stay with that main idea for the entire story. that keeps your readers hooked.
this is the kind of thing where you might not have high readership, but the vast majority of people that make it halfway through page 1 will definitely continue.
seriously, i loved mercy's narration, about naming her cat, and what she would tell her therapist ("perhaps she would mention the fire"), etc.,. that kind of stuff made it so easy to keep reading (and not skim!)
