"It crossed Kara's mind to wonder if her 'flowers' actually had to be female. She'd just assumed, seeing as that was how actual flowers worked."
Kara seems to be misinformed about how flowers work. Each blossom contains both male and female sex organs, more like Kara herself than any of the other characters in this story. The association of flowers with femininity has less to do with accurate botanical anatomy than it has with centuries of misinformation about women being the weaker, more delicate gender. In a world where nobody is surprized to meet a female mercenary/assassin and where sex, if not openly discussed, is at least handled in a significantly more healthy way than it is in our own world, it's a bit weird that this association exists.
That minor worldbuilding critique aside, this is an excellent story and one I hadn't really noticed until I saw it had been updated again. I hope you finish writing it, even if that takes 10 more years.
