Why?
Carl Bradford answers the question left unanswered in many tales about voluntary enslavement. Willow McDonald works at the biggest auction house in Texas as a wrangler a person who wields a baton to keep slaves in line during in - processing and reduction to servitude. She knows what can happen if you break the rules and play slave. She has done it before.
Jack Murtha is Willow's friend and secret admirer. He plays slave to please Willow. He takes the risk of being enslaved in the process to impress a girl.
Like the most intelligent person who makes difficulties to show brilliance in resolving them, Willow takes these risks for the thrill of it even though the consequence can be imposing slavery on herself. Caught how badly will Willow be punished? read the story.
"The people controlling us seemed to be rational, neither sadistic nor plotting to enslave us, but I didn't know them from Adam." I like the way you do that, portraying your characters as ordinary rational people doing their jobs. One of the things that happens in the genre is you see too many stories in which the slavers are depicted as mono-dimensional sadists which makes the story much less interesting.
