INT. CARMELA'S SUV - GARDEN STATE PARKWAY - DAY
CARMELA is driving north on her way to Spring Valley, New
York. She stops at a gas station pay phone and pulls out a
slip of paper.
INT. AJ'S BEDROOM - DAY
AJ is on the phone with an unidentified partner.
AJ
Like I was saying, dude, I really
wanna hang in the city today after
school. Can you get out?
(listens)
Cool! Let's meet at noon. We need
to go shopping...
EXT. GAS STATION PARKING LOT - DAY
CARMELA is standing in front of the pay phone holding a slip
of paper, not sure whether or not to make the call. She
finally decides, and punches the numbers.
CARMELA
(tentative)
Hi! This is Gina! How are you,
Jeff?
(listens)
Sure, I can find it. Are you near
by?
(listens)
OK, eleven o'clock it is. See you
then.
CARMELA hangs up the phone. She leans up against a pole near
the phone and stares into space.
INT. BADA BING - DAY
TONY and the crew are in TONY's office. CHRIS is shooting
pool and the others are standing around with the exception of
TONY, who is pacing angrily.
TONY
So where the fuck is Benny? Did
you call him Christopher?
CHRIS
T, I called him as soon as we left
your place. He was at the doctor's
office with his wife. You know,
she's knocked up...
TONY's cell phone rings. He answers and listens. He nods,
then closes the phone.
TONY
Something's come up and I gotta go.
I'll be back in an hour and a half,
and I wanna see that little fuck's
ass planted in one of these chairs
when I get back.
TONY exits the room as the others watch him leave.
CHRIS
You guys have been around this life
longer than me. Do you think
there's gonna be a war over this?
SILVIO
Nah, nothin' like that. Tony ain't
gonna go head to head with New York
over this thing. But, Johnny Sack
did overstep a little here.
PAULIE
(teasing)
Yeah, don't worry that pretty
little head of yours, Chrissy boy.
CHRIS
(defensive)
Hey, I ain't worryin', just askin'!
SILVIO
(laughing)
It's just a little ball busting.
Take it easy, tiger.
CHRIS joins the other two men in a laugh.
INT. DR MELFI'S OFFICE - DAY
Dr JENNIFER MELFI is gathering files as TONY enters the
office. She takes her seat and TONY sits opposite her.
TONY
(glum)
How's it going?
I had an issue today at work that
almost canceled us.
MELFI
Well, you're the patient, so you
can do as you wish.
TONY
Yeah, right.
(beat)
You know what's funny?
MELFI
(deadpan)
I don't know. You don't look very
mirthful.
TONY
How can a guy with two families not
be able to open up to either of
them?
MELFI
Confiding in real family members
carries its own risks, and I
understand the waste management
business has its dangers as
well...rats notwithstanding.
TONY
(raising eyebrow)
Rats like how?
MELFI
Rats like the furry kind.
TONY
Gotcha. Anyway, I'm having this
problem at work with a guy I know.
MELFI
