You only need “was” once in the sentence. You are somewhat repetitious so am I. I enjoyed the story regardless.

This was very well written, my only critique would be just a lil more descriptive make the reader be able to feel themselves in the character who ever they may want to be in the story.

Read a story a dozen years ago that was nontrivially similar. Always wanted to relocate it. Leaves me with ambiguous feelings about finding this story.
