Love's Contenders

Tarnished heart,
Damned soul,
Love apart is a slow death
For the one whose existential agony is untold.

Restless desire
Running wild
Eludes the mateless woman praying to conceive a child.

Jilted survivor,
Callous at the core,
The person hurt by falling in love absurdly asks for more.

Bruised and battered,
TKO’d in love’s rumble,
We bob back up for a final round knowing the big payoff is the nocturnal tumble.
