Watching the inside of my lids
Black rivers with ever-changing form
Until they overflow onto my pillow

My soul is unconnected with every other
My outside, simply a shell
Apply pressure and this facade will shatter

What would be left underneath-
Pale, frail, exposed, and defenseless
Shivering in the night
Alone, stripped and surrounded by artificial comfort

The warmth of the covers
bellies the cold within
I need another person, some compassion
Is it my fate to be trapped?
Behind my lids.
