The Reiver’s Lament
An Entitlement Hidden Within
Where went my youth?
Remembered feral days,
Becalmed
In furore,
Entrenched in change
Eager and rabid in its careening pace.
What were the questions?
Overlooked in yearning eyes,
Glazed
By hungers
Hunger’s sharp edged ever wanting,
Steel edged, a weapon wrought by appetite.
Why did I seek?
Answers in so many a coveted prize,
Offered
Gifts impassioned
Need serving wanting, wanted , rituals?
Sacrifices offered unknowing to callous acquisition.
Who needed me?
More than my own necessity,
Selfish
Ambition blinding
Demands made reckless
Virulent plagues , prophesying unseen biblical rage.
When did I embrace?
More than clutching want,
Beseeching
Her deflected meaning
Discord woven in a lilting melody
As the Piper Laments, harmonious, An End of All My Days.
Which chart did I so misread?
Through pillaged joys
Bewitching
Her bewitching beauty,
That knowledge buried within her,
And in her sudden, lucid, knowing, She Pipes The Mournful End of All Our Days.
