There is really nothing of interest in this entire story.

I loved the story, but if you decide to write again, may I suggest that you consider using an editor? There were many distracting errors, but I have to admit, while distracting, this one made me laugh: "She'd found a pair of white lady's gloves". How did she know the gloves belonged to a white lady? Of course you meant that she found a pair of ladies white gloves, but using an editor (hopefully) would have caught that, along with the other errors.
