Anonymousabout 14 years agoThe only problem I am having with this story is the way our hero is so fixed on Allison. I have always given every one of your stories either 4's or 5's. I really enjoy your well written stories, particularly the character and plot developments. But this one is starting to get to me in a negative way. He appears to have everything going for him except for his fixation on his downer choice of companion. Hope this improves.

both the protagonist and the, er, love of his life....
They never learn. The story is interesting and everything in Lovett is unbelievable... I like reading about them...

<p>I'm all for romance in a story. Heck I like to root for the little guy, but this..... I'm sorry but these characters are 51 different flavors of stupid</p>
<p>I'm not saying you are but the characters actions.</p>
<p>If you think about it, you have the main character heart broken because the women he wants won't quit drinking. Then he decides they are done as a couple because she's doing orgies while drunk. But then he decides he can handle anything else she's done if she quits drinking.</p>
<p>But then he finds out that she being passed around like a party favor to be used as a sex toy by countless men, and she's hooking up with more and more dangerous people that could get her, as well as him, killed but he still just has to have her because his love for her is so great??</p>
<p>Then you have him breaking down and crying like a 3 year old because she left their city to live in a new city with her druggy boy friend.</p>
<p>You made him just as <i>insane</i> as she is.</p>
<p>It was one thing if this was her former life and he wanted to chance being with her once it was all over, but you had this guy wait for almost what...10 years, following that roller coaster that was her life and it only went straight to the basement? And he can't wait to buy another ticket to get a front row seat on it?</p>
<p>But really what hurts the character development for me is that the character turns down better and more adjusted females because he's waiting until the train wreck he really wants finally quits acting like she 10 years old and life has no consequences?</p>
<p>I have to say the writing wasn't bad, but the premise for the story doesn't make sense. No rational human being tries to keep buying for themselves the same heartache over and over and over and over again like this guy did.</p>

Anonymousover 14 years agobut is incredibly unrealistic. He did the right thing in leaving her in the beginning when it turned out that she was a slut for whoever could keep her drunk. I could see him keeping track of her for a while, but 9 years? No way. She is the worse kind of alcoholic, can't keep a job and acting a whore for whoever gets her a drink. Only an idiot would even remember her after almost a decade, let alone going off to rescue her. People like that never change, not for long anyway. For a good look into the life I suggest the movie 'Barfly,' it kinda dark but realistic.
