Top story, more romance than anything else. I thoroughly enjoyed it

A lot different than Cinderella meets Breakfast at Tiffany's. Being beautiful, smart and ambitious as well as faithful was the winning spousal lotto.

Although not bright enough to realize the truth about himself, Rob was a life long whoremonger. The attraction, when he clearly had other choices available to him, is difficult to understand and almost certainly pathologic.

Query, when he used escorts it was for functions every few weeks, yet when Ellen moved in it was twice a week, how come?

I really enjoyed the story. In my opinion, the weakest point in the whole story was the MC's relationship with Marcy. It seemed over the top to me: she was a total cheating slut even before they got married and still the MC not only accepted her plan of free relationship but he even decided to marry her(???). Did he really believe that she would change and really become a faithful wife? I don't find this believable. Also, I find it a bit unsettling that the MC would marry a prostitute (and please, don't tell me that she was just an escort: she did provide sexual services for money under the table, thus, she was a prostitute). However, this fact might be offset by the MC's using the services of a prostitute. Well, if that's how they want it, then, who am I to criticize?

AnonymousAnonymous9 months ago

It was a very entertaining story that I enjoyed. But the devil on my shoulder said that if you're playing Secret Santa ( fun game) EVERYBODY would have taken notice of the key in the box and I don't see him taking the chance (as the boss) of going up to the room just to satisfy his curiosity. And even at the end Ellen was hedging her bets saying she needed some time to think about the decision. If he went in, that's when he would have walked out. I know you never write followups to your stories but it would be fun to see him NOT go to the room and end up with Tasha in a new ending to this story.

I just finished reading 'Separate Vacations' by the incredible Daniel Q Steele, and as I was

studying his profile, (and saw he sadly stopped posting to LIT years ago) I noticed there was

only 1 single story he chose as a favorite and this was it! Wow! I have read many of your stories,

but few have the character development and feeling of Rob's Fortune! Great story Bob! I know you write tons of stuff, but I wish you'd write classics like this more often :)

Halfway through, I thought, what the hell is this guy droning about?

But surprisingly, it all came together at the end. Nice one.

Did not expect to enjoy this ad much as I did. Only thing that might've been nice is an epilogue that confirmed the pattern stopped with Ellen. But that's wishful thinking, I know. It'll have to be my headcanon.

With Uncle James as an unlikely godfather, the traumatic early exposure to infidelity and Aunt Betty might have lingering commitment phobia also.

Family dysfunction was a mixed blessing along with a n unexpected heir to a fortune.

(Missing is what happened to Uncle James as well as Aunt Betty)

Did the protagonist and Ellen live happily ever after?

(Or did she or he have 'buyers remorse'?)

AnonymousAnonymous11 months ago

It was a good story until he went up to Room 412. I just don't see a man in his position taking that kind of chance.

You really can't judge EVERYONE by what their willing to do to reach a decent life, some only do it because it's necessary and they hope doing the necessary doesn't taint and rot their heart and soul by the time they can stop and hope to find love. Some of course are just soulless creatures who could give less of a damn about love and are just out for themselves and will use any and everyone else for their own ends no matter who they hurt. 😇👿

Maybe his money will keep him insulated, but I don't see much of a future for Rob marrying a woman who was an escort and has no inhibition about who she keeps company with as long as they are rich and can take care of her needs... of course Rob is just as much a mess and clueless as they come in relationships... he will never learn... should be another interesting divorce down the road.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

I don't see why people in thr comment sectio think ill of Ellen. She is like 24. She has been an escort for years. Almost all of her relationships with men have not been remotely productive. She has an ambition to succeed. Thr MC hired her on like he was a sugar daddy. Yes they fell in love. But she knows the MC has his own dark past which is why it too so long for them to end up in bed and only with her taking the initiative. They had a good time together and both developed feelings for each other. Then 7 months from her graduation (in May) he proposes (and not in a clear, direct way btw). She rejects the proposal and explains she wants to be free of men for a while. The MC is understandably hurt. He wants a clean break. She doesn't. He gets her out of his house into an apartment and she is shocked. She wasn't dating anyone else. She is a full time student and still his employee/escort but he doesn't want to see her. She explains on the phone she never said she wanted him entirely out of her life, she just wants to live a life without men at the center of it. Of course he is understandably upset and feels like he lost time and he is older, so he turns back to Tasha for sex. Ellen knows he is using other escorts. She might even guess he is seeing Tasha again. She doesn't castigate him. They were apart for two months (7 months from graduation to Christmas party). She was seeing people from work and setting this night up probably a couple weeks before. I would guess she knew he went away to Cabo with a companion for a week via Mona. She doesn't care. She realized in like 6 weeks that she could not live without him. The loneliness he felt with her gone from his life, she also experienced. The smartest thing he did was a clean break so she would feel the separation as well. And she did. She understood that if she took time "off" to explore the world on her own without a man at the center of her life, he might very likely NOT be there when she was done. She came back and gave herself to Rob. Good for them. So yes a happy ending. Btw having been an escort for so long and making $30k in under the table transactions (a year), she has no need to sample strange like Marci or Cheri. She has probably seen everything she would ever think of it, some it quite gross, some of it fine or good, but none of it with emotion. It takes fortitude for her to be able to fall in love after that type of occupational history. Marci was a slut, Cheri was a narcissist psycho. What pisses me off is Annie. The MC completely fucked up there. If I was Ellen hearing that story, I would be like "why didn't he go after her?" That was justna few paragraphs but absolutely brutal. Annie was drugged and then gangraped by animals at her Bachelorette party in a bar. I can't believe her friends didn't go with her to the bathroom or check sooner on her. 30 minutes? And I can't believe thr MC just gave up on her. What a complete jackass. We don't even know of she committed suicide or fell into crippling depression. He failed Annie miserably.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

Really sad about Annie. She was raped at her Bachelorette party. She felt so ashamed that she left the man she loved. That was awful. I wish they had reconnected somehow down the line. She did nothing wrong. Stupid friends and a bunch predators taking advantage of a drugged woman. That is disgusting. Payback against them was warranted. Why didn't he hire a PI? In his position I would have pursued her to the end of the earth, if only just to forgive her and make sure she didn't kill herself. She must have gone back to her family. Surprised and disappointed the MC just let her disappear. That is crazy.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

Since the MC caught syphilis from Marcy and hadn't touched her since the hotel incident, then either it wasn't her first time with that guy OR she got it from someone else. Unless that was an unintended error by thr author. I thought his arrangement with Marcy was practical while soulless but he had no intention of marriage. What stuns me is why he would ever marry Marcy after graduation that makes zero sense. On a side note, engagements or marriages in college don't make much sense. Too young. Too immature. Too many temptations. I got married in graduate school during my postdoctoral research but my wife had already graduated. Could not have imagined getting engaged as an undergraduate. Wow.

Poor bastard. Someone needs to die for the Annie incident. Should have hired a PI to find her.

As to Cheri, if a girl doesn't like you right away, forget it. Pick from the girls who are instantly attracted to you.

Started his own firm? WTF? If you have that many millions your job is investing and pursuing your hobbies.

Dammit boy, you are going to let yourself fall in love with a hooker. Time for a background check on Ellen.

Fuck yeah that's the way he wants it. If your love wants to go free, kick her ass out the door and move on.

Yeah she's gone you whining pussy. Take an around the world cruise with all that money big boy.

Now exactly how the fuck does she know he's using the agency? Keeping in touch with them?

If she was that hot for him, she wouldn't take a chance by not being there protecting her investment. She's making sure she has the power in the relationship. Walk away. If not, pre nup.

Tasha and the private jet. Attaboy.

No fuck no. Don't start chasing another whore in Tasha.

Forget room 412. I hate surprises.

OK, but damn sure don't forget the pre nup.

I feel that there should be a separate story for Annie. She really didn’t cheat like the others. Her offense was unplanned and she was extremely upset about her actions. Actually, I think she overreacted, which led me to think she would have self esteem issues. I think it would make an interesting romance story to write about

I wonder whether a girl / woman likes to be called a “.piece of ass “.

dark2donut2dark2donut2almost 3 years ago

Quite a foolish story. Not being able to maintain relationship with women would mean two possibilities - either the person is not worth himself so women move away or he is likely hooking up with wrong choices. Given JPB attachment to Krystal Summers and waitresses, no wonder.

Now getting married with a woman 13 years younger who already had a busy career of whoring herself as escort (make no mistake - "escort" is just a dignified term for a whore, perhaps a high class whore but still a whore) is quite a risk and hardly a romance.

It could be a romance for a superb male specimen who is very attractive to women and has a strong ethical value but what is the chance "Rob" aka JPB would be such. Only in his dreams.

If you are not good looking you will not get a beauty and what you get will not be something you would be falling over. In that case love will be a long term project.

Perhaps this story needs a typical absurd JPB second chapter with Ellen getting gangbanged on business trips.

Hiker66BikerHiker66Bikeralmost 3 years ago

My second thoughts on this story. The second part feels like a re-hash of the plot of the film 'Pretty Woman' where a rich man (Rob) saves the whore (Ellen) to make an honest woman of her. In 19th century England, the hobby of one Prime Minister, William Gladstone, was saving 'fallen women' - although I'm not sure how successful he was. By her own admission, Ellen was quite a busy whore. She admits to making $30,000 per year from 'additional services'. If we assume that she charged $250 per trick, then she is servicing up to 120 men per year, although some will be repeat customers. Also, a weakness of the story is that a young girl at college like Ellen would have a group of close girlfriends. There is no mention of her friends, so it doesn't ring true for me. Also, Ellen worries what her mother will think of her living with Rob, but she didn't worry what her mother thought when she was selling her body to random men? Other than that the story is entertaining and kept me engaged to the end.

Hiker66BikerHiker66Bikeralmost 3 years ago

Creative plot. I liked the extended time over which the story takes place. I liked that it is not overloaded with description of sexual intercourse. 5 stars.

Good story until the fucked up ending

First off - as the boss, there's no way he goes up to the room. He can't afford any chance that one of his employees might be in there. There's no good scenario for him in that room and he's smart enough to understand that. So I don't think he goes to the room and there's no reason he would get back with Ellen considering her attitude and his position. While I enjoyed the rest of the story, the ending was just wrong.

Title should have been ‘Curiosity killed the Cuck’

Oh come on fellas he’s a whiny little bitch.

Marcy serial cheats at college and he’s amazed when it happens after he’s married. Duh!

But it does bring into question the entry qualifications required by the college system in the USA, because this appears to indicate the only requirement is an IQ level higher than zero and less than ten. Hey maybe an IQ isn’t required at all, perhaps they have the MQ test instead, we all know that IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient but few people are aware of the Moronic Quotient commonly referred to as the MQ test, a test with which this guy displays genius level results.

And bless his little cotton socks he ends up with the proverbial whore with a heart of gold. You just couldn’t make this stuff up, oh hang on a sec...

Fuzzy

I could write pages about the behavioral inconsistencies of the main characters in the story. But that is my point. I can't seem to reconcile the erratic behavior of the characters with an interesting storyline.

Just one example, I don't think Rob or Ellen ever said "I love you" to each other throughout the story. But they are getting married.

Rob caught Marcie cheating twice. The second time he says he won't divorce her if she outs her lover to his wife. But if she gave him an STD he would. I get it. It's OK if she's a cheating slut. But if she's a stupid cheating slut who picks up an STD by not using protection, then she's gone.

Ellen is making $30K per yr. hooking. She's a prostitute. Nothing more nothing less. After all the heartache apparently normal women have put Rob through he's going to risk his happiness on a soon to be ex-prostitute who is giving up her fantasy of living on her own and enjoying the good life to be with a guy 15 or more years older? Oh, that's right he's worth millions.

Could there be unspoken motives?

Imagine trying to turn a whore into a housewife, again.

Rob the brainlet is literally incapable of learning from his mistakes. Makes one wonder how long his business and fortune will last before he inevitably squanders it chasing bad decision after bad decision.

ojalalalaojalalalaalmost 5 years ago
Annie...

Rob has money and what should be some unfinished business. They aren't going to be together now that he's married Ellen, but he should check on and help a woman who was on her own, had very limited means and who meant something to him and left town after being gang raped. If he can rape the rapists and their accomplices, all the better. Whether or not they ended up together, I'd like to seen him go after the women who got Annie drunk and left her to go to the restroom BY HERSELF when drunk in a club with male strippers. These women don't sound like friends, and they waited until she was gone a month before they let him find out what happened to Annie, something that maybe they set up.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 5 years ago
Sure, it was a fun read, for the most part

The bit with Robin didn't sit well with me though, Rob was doing the same thing to her that his girlfriend was doing to him... I'm sure, if Robin had known the whole situation, she wouldn't have liked it, and in the end, Rob was using her just for fun, knowing he wasn't in it for the long hall. Honesty is everything.

He got dragged over the coals time and time again to the point where he had given up on women... and yet he continued to add to the social cesspool by doing the same thing? Not a totally likeable character.

Still, while still standard fair for a LW JPB story, it wasn't as boilerplate a some of your offerings. Don't get me wrong, some of your stories are great, but a few of them have such similar plot mechanisms, it's like you took the same text and changed the names.

That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy them though.

Thanks for the read, 4 stars

HOLY CRAP MONKIES!

Stop the presses! HarryinVA LIKED something????? Be still my beating heart! The only problem was that this was one of JPB's mediocre stories. He mailed in the "happily ever after" ending. I guess that's one way this story could have gone, although I found it to be highly unlikely. It felt like she went for the money and he believed she had a sudden change of heart. Really? Why? I understand her response to the money. But why would he spend a week with the call girl and then marry another call girl that had expressed her desire to leave the business and men for a period of time? That raised no red flags in his mind? But the worst part was his decision to go up to the room. He says it himself. Someone that works for him will be in that room and nothing good will come from him entering the room. Can you say sexual harrassment or worse? No way he goes up. And that ends the story cuz he sure as hell isn't going to pick up the phone and talk to her or voluntarily have a meal with her. Just not happening. So I think that there is a fake Harry out there and that Rob never sees her again.

4*, almost Cinderella but the real win was in Annie. She had honor, virtue, and cared so deeply for him she sacrificed herself - Annie should have gotten the trophy. It is not her fault she got drugged - her wedding party AND MAID OF HONOR let her down.

But once again his little head was doing all his thinking - he was burned and he was shallow. Not long after Annie he got the money but he never got a PI to find Annie. HE sucked.

Ellen was a high priced hooker seeking money - they might endure but at what cost as he will always have a lingering doubt of when will the other shoe to fall. I say this doubt will poison this marriage especially when she hits the 7-10 yr itch.

Annie was the only one worth marrying

I just reread this, and still think he should have tried going after Annie again, she's the only one not a whore, she was gangbanged yes, but was slipped a drug, which makes her a victim.

Her actions showed her to be a woman of integrity, he should have searched her out, if not then, later on when he got rich and could afford private detectives.

Her a "Whore"?

What makes her a whore? She's an Escort. So she gives her body to others for money, sometimes. Does that really make her a whore? What about women or men that go out on dates, movies, dinner, etc. and either the man or woman pays and they end up in bed. Does that make either one of them a whore? In my opinion, NOPE!

I felt sorry for Annie, she was the only woman of integrity he had ever dated, she was the only one that didn't want to fuck other men, and it seems like she didn't do so willingly, he should have tried finding her again once he had the money to pay for expensive private investigators, at the very least find out if she was well.

It would have made a lot more sense than going from women that spread their legs for fun, to a woman that spread her legs for men who could pay ie. going from sluts to whores, but at least she doesn't have that 'curiosity' so maybe her loyalty can stay bought.

From a Slut to a Whore by JPB

Yup, Rob hit the jackpot alright. Married a slut (Marcy), got the gift of syphilis and finally got smart and divorced the slut.

So what does he do for an encore??? Marries a WHORE. Oh yeah, this is going to work out just fine. Rob is a loser, just another JPB loser.

A very nice fantasy story with a happy ending

But this isn't "Pretty Woman", she wasn't Julie Roberts, too many people know she's a hooker and there's no way in hell that he puts a ring on her finger. I don't see him going up to the room regardless of how horny he was. Much more likely to call Tasha

and work out his "horniness" with her. Why? For the very reasons he told Betty no. Why would he take the chance that who ever was in the room was one of his employees? Even if he does nothing but go to the room to see who's in it, that woman could claim all sorts of bad things. I think he never went to the room and never saw Ellen again. End of story. I like your fictional fairy tale better, but that's not what happened, given the character you gave Rob.

hmmm

I always felt a bit uncomfortable with older men dating younger women, about 10 years younger and more.

MILFs are awesome!

good story

nice one, I enjoyed it, bit of a hard time, but it all worked out. I thought he would meet up with the one that got gang banged (date rape drug), I felt sorry for her, she really lost out, it's a shame that after realizing what had happened to her, he didn't try to find her, and help her out. she was the only one who was up front about everything with him in the beginning.

Wow, even all his blood relatives left him too. They just kept dying. Darn.

HA, just kidding. Actually a fabulous story and the only JPB story I have ever read twice. That is a rarity for me ( so many stories..so little time ). 5 stars.

Just a Dirty Old Man (of course I have been one since I was thirteen)who likes to write about the things that I've seen and been exposed to in my life. There is a little bit of me in almost all of my stories and in some of them there is quite a lot. I leave it to the reader ...
