A sad tale. Richard Fields is an awful human being, seemingly unable to view anyone, or anything in any terms other than material worth. A ghastly creature.
Hereditary slavery is often avoided in legalized slavery stories. I think these last 2 story sections have fallen into some of the pitfalls that makes it a problematic story concept.
There's definitely material for a sequel here. I kept waiting for Ellie to run into her older daughter throughout the series. Once you let it rest a bit, I hope you pick it up again and carry it forward.
Don't know what will happen next, but I hope it won't turn out that Ellie was just a big idiot sacrificing herself for her daughter. Though given author's writing style plus such dysotopian world such ending is possible.
I beg you to to do at least an epilog, I also miss the circle and all of the jewelry that ellie got from Bill and Douglas. Did he older daughter did ok. Or not? It lacks closure ellie had a good life how are the others Tim Douglas, the kovacs? Trevor is a slave why?
Adding in child slavery at the end of the story is a huge F.U. to readers of this genre.
