Speaking of Shooting Fish

in a barrel, adrenaline takes over and one's hands get unsteady. Add to that the fact that Nidal (he has no right to any rank) was clearly mentally unstable (although not sufficiently so to interpose an insanity defense), and one sees that his kill rate was about the best he could expect. What surprises me is that no one jumped him sooner. And that the Army promoted this garbage--mind you, all of us who served saw others almost as bad.

my experience

Sir, I served several years at Ft. Hood AND had Pistol as well as Rifle training,I went through the Readiness Center as well as the processing center, most likely the reason Mgr. Hassan DIDN'T kill more people is because the range of the 9mm pistol he was using, like ALL small Caliber pistols, well... sucks,it's usually no more than 50 meters, that may sound like a lot,but trust me,shooting as a moving target with a weapon like that is a lot harder than it sounds for someone who doesn't practice and have experience. We should ALL be thankful that he WAS as you say,a lousy shot.

Eh-- the KEY is media reaction after the shooting

"Lets NOT jump to conclusions".... "he may not be connected to Al Q"... "he could be justa crazed nut".,... blah blah blah...

2 hours after the shooting of the Congresswoman PAUL KRUGMAN Nobel prize winning columinist / economists for the NYT wrote a column SPECFICALLY accusing the Tea Psrty and Palin os cuaing that shooting.

12 hours after the shooting the sheriff SPECIFICALLY accused far right wing talk shows and the Tea Party of fostering and atmosphere of hate and violence.

Now I am NOT a fan of Palin. She is a Moron and I will never ever vote for her (but I am sure shewoud be a good fuck as well) but the DOUBLE STANDARD was and is SHOCKING .

Terrorist or Unhinged?

Evidently you don't know shit about handguns, or weapon protocol at Ft. Hood. I suggest you stick to what you're supposed to be good at i.e. Airforce historian (with a weapon lol)

Know before you write

Why don't you learn about a topic before you write about it? I could only read the first screen or so before I realized you have no idea what you are talking about and thus cannot support your argument. A laser sighted handgun is not a magic device that kills every person it is fired at.

A laser sight MIGHT improve aim. First it needs to be adjusted so that the point of aim matches the point of impact. If the laser aims 6" from where the bullet hits, it won't do much good. Second, the person shooting still needs the skill to be able to have the bullet hit where it is aimed. Just because this man was in the military does not automatically mean he knows how to shoot.

Also, handguns are known to not be very effective. They are a compromise to increase portability. About 80% of people shot with one survive. By this, this man was unfortunately MORE successful with only 72% surviving.

Stick to writing about topics you know, or don't write at all

Listen to the others

And me. There is a high probability that he was not using the laser sight. He was not using the iron sights for that matter. He was pointing and shooting. A simple thing like your grip on the gun can cause you to miss the target completely. A gun does not automatically fit your hand, some have to shop to find one that does. I own a couple that feel like two by fours in my hand. He was nervous, his brain was confused by the noise of the firearm and a few other things. And I agree with Harry, they love to finger point, it takes up all of their time.

I go more with the Idiot part

Of course if the ACLU/CAIR/Muslim Brotherhood had not acted for the Major and other terrorists the tracking agency would have been able to link the SOB after his Iman was declared to be a terrorist. Kind of surprising they let the MPs even carry empty weapns, but that is today's PC Army, where Hasan was an "Army of one". Remember the Marine guards in Beriut guarding the barracks were not allowed to have loaded weapons and hundreds were killed and injured and we ran form Lebanon.

Total idiot, who carried TWO handguns (.357 which he may or may not have fired), guess we will know if there ever is a trial. But Chubby had to change clips several times, surely someone could have tried to stop him then. It is not a one handed operation. Guess we should be happy he was not using the old 45, when you are hit much more damage. One of the guys who tackled the left wing idiot in AZ was a 74 year old wounded former National Guard officer, different training then they give them now.

Maybe it is hard to aim while shooting God/Allah is Great and Allah is Merciful while you are killing innocents. Islam is the religion of Peace. Does anybody get a disconnect?

Do not send a Major to do a soldier's job

So, the lesson learned is to not send an officer to do a job that would be better performed by a regular soldier, who is trained to kill or be killed. But then, a common soldier would have had more smarts than this Major.

What we had here

was live-fire testing that the FN 5.7mm cartridge sucks. It's an overpowered .22 Mag, and acted accordingly.

Writer knows nothing about firearm and nothing about military bases

Firstly, excepting suicide, over nine out of ten people shot survive.

Secondly,Hassan did better than most mass shooters in terms of hit rate and in terms of fatality per person hit.

Thirdly he used an FN with a very fast FPS but a relatively low energy transferred amount. That pistol round he used is more oriented toward defeating very light valiant vest or thin metal of car doors but does cause as much tissue damage as normal HP 9mm or 40 cal.

Fourthly if one is going to begin with a timeline then it begins with the start of his many contacts with AQ in Yemen.

Fifthly in the last ten years there have been a total of four mass murders of 50 or more people in the US and the EU. One has been on the US and three have been in the EU. Two of the four, the largest two, have not used guns at all.

Sixthly, Hassan, like any of us who have been in the service in the last couple of decades, KNEW that the base was a “gun free zone.”

Been a while. Near a decade, actually. I created this profile a long time ago, when I was quite stupid. But I've been busy. I've come out with nearly 30 books and a bunch of short stories. I've even gotten married (three years, already, and they said it wouldn't last.) All m...
