Woodstove hot,
warm air gently lapping at the cold

Geese flying overhead,
their calls cacophonous but soothing

The sunset fades,
the Earth goes to bed a bit earlier than usual

Just like me,
tucked under warm layers of blankets and leaves

Our sleep will come soon,
the Sweet release of the harvest and then a colder time...

Time to die back, time to purge, time to lay in wait
...don’t have to try too hard

Until spring buds push forth, just when we thought this was really the end

New life emerges and kisses the Sun
