An excellent ballad

This is a wonderful story, plucking at one's heartstrings at the end. The meter and rhyming scheme is excellent ... wow! Very well done.

Hooray for the ballad!

I wish we'd see more ballads in modern poetry. If we did, I don't think poetry would be seen as elitist as it is viewed by some. There is a place for song and story in modern poetry, and this is a great example.

I also liked how economical you were with words; some ballads go on too long. Great work!
