Really great

Your poetry is equally as amazing as your storytelling.

Eventually, life is what you make it.

Another excellent poem and observation on life Brittni! Thank you for sharing this part of you with us. We have a choice as to how we wish to interpret the world or how to deal with it. Yes, there's lots of ugly out there. But in moments of calm serenity, I think it's also possible to find peace and tranquility. Maybe this is all that happiness can be - those special moments in time that last from mere seconds to minutes. Living in the moment might give us the happiness we so easily miss on a daily basis and long for late in the nights. I like Santa, whether he's real or not. It's a choice, isn't it?

Five!

I love how this poem emphasizes the importance to hang onto a fragment of our childhood innocence, despite the fact that age and a better understanding of how the world works may make us jaded. That spark of innocence and sense of wonderment is what makes life worth living, makes the journey sweeter.

Nice, but the line "Aunt’s heroine from is to on." is opaque to me. What does it mean?

meaning

The line "Aunt's heroine from is to on" means when we were younger we looked at her as a heroine...hence the term, "Is"....as we have grown we realize she is on heroin....hence the term "on"

as per the usual

You have a tendency to take real world topics and blend them into a simple rhyming form. If it wasn't for the seriousness of the topic I'd say it was a plain old limerick. The content however is so very mature. Couldn't agree more with the overall message. In these times, I think it's excellent to be hopeful no matter how silly it may seem.

Great poem

Veey moving and poignant poem, with a great flow and rhymes. Sooner or later, childhood innocence and wimsy fades away and we have to face the real world. Nothing lasts forever. Yes, the trust is often taken at too high of a cost. I especially liked this part: "Life’s movie absorbs an alternative plot,

Happy endings are the ultimate con."  And the conclusion:

"Though finding optimism can be a task,

Especially at hour eleven.

Anticipate Santa, too much to ask?

Like we did when we were seven."

Keep up the great work, you are very talented. And happy Valentine's Day! I wish you the best.
