well done, in my mind there are no rules for a poet to embrace. You write what is in your heart, what is on your mind. If it means something to you, that is all there is.

I love poetry, both new and old, if it moves me [like the wheel does] pardon the pun, then you have achieved a goal that all of us poets strive for.

Certainly acceptable as poetry. Unfortunately you did not tag the work as "depressing, downbeat." Having coped with depression much of my life, I would prefer not to have read this.
