After weeks of begging, Faustina showed me the dens where children were raised. Some Helpers were wetnurses and minders when the children were young and others acted as teachers for the older ones. She said that the children she bore wouldn't recognize her if they saw her, they were raised in totally communal forms without any knowledge that they had parents.
It broke my heart to imagine my child growing up without knowing me, but perhaps it was for the best. This was all in the name of journalism and once I left here and published my book — any child would just be a thing of the past.
