I think the part about illegitimate children is historically accurate. I'm not a historian or anything, but I seem to remember that lots of kings caused problems by having illegitimate kids who became threats to other people seeking to sit on some throne or other. European history would have been less bloody if they'd had better forms of birth control back then.
