--- ANYTHING FOR YOU ---

"What are you doing out here? Are you cutting class?"

Alric looked up, seemingly a bit dazed and out of it, and met Sigrid's sapphire eyes with his own. In his hand he held a Zippo lighter, fidgeting with it, opening it up and shutting it again with a satisfying 'click', on repeat. There was a sadness in his expression, something deep-rooted, and there was an aching sort of desperation there as well. It took him a moment to realize that she'd asked him a question, and when he snapped back to reality, he only shook his head in response.

"What is it?" she pressed, feeling the concern creep into her voice. She reached out to place a hand on his shoulder, and he welcomed it. They had been friends since kindergarten and had been through a lot together over the years. Seeing him upset was like a dagger to the heart. "Did something happen?"

"She cheated on me.. Debbie.." His voice was heavy and weak, and he quickly choked up. It looked like he had more to say, but the words just wouldn't come out. Sigrid took a deep breath, and sat down on the wooden bench outside of the campus's music hall, next to her friend. She chewed gently on her bottom lip, and held her breath for several seconds, unsure of how to proceed.

"... I've always said you deserve better than her," Sigrid spoke cautiously. "You know that, right?"

Alric looked up at the sound of her voice, meeting her gaze with tired and desperate eyes. It wasn't quite a thousand-yard-stare, but it was not far from it, she thought. There was a lot he wanted to say to that statement - some small part of him almost wanted to defend Debbie for reasons he could not understand - and he opened his mouth to speak. Sigrid beat him to it, though, and continued.

"... I know you liked her, Alric, but it's true. You're an amazing person - bright, caring, generous, incredibly sweet..." She couldn't help but chuckle despite the gravity of the situation when she noticed that Alric's cheeks flushed red-hot. Scandinavian men were not known for handling compliments skillfully. "And she always took you for granted," Sigrid continued, with more fervor in her voice. "You were never her first priority, y'know? She treated you like a.. Like an afterthought."

Alric sighed deeply, his hands shaking a bit. He seemed to be contemplating his response for a moment, and the wind whipped past the two of them, causing Alric to run a hand through his charcoal-coloured hair. She loved when he did that, and subconsciously rubbed her thighs together. "I don't think I actually loved her, but.. I still didn't expect her to treat me this poorly." He let out a deep breath, but his chest still felt tight. "I guess I just.. Misread her. What do I do, Sigrid?" he asked, his voice unsteady and full of doubt. "I cannot forgive her."

Sigrid was silent for a time, looking into his eyes with a tenderness, searching for something. She knew the way Alric operated, and she could usually see through him, past his façade, to the boy he had once been. A clever boy, but far more fragile than he'd like for the world to know. But Sigrid knew. She knew everything about him. He was not the kind of man that was easily distracted, and for her to suggest that he'd try to keep himself occupied with other things likely wouldn't produce a fruitful outcome. What he needed was warmth and company. Her warmth, preferably.

"You shouldn't forgive her, Alric. She'd only hurt you again. Somehow, I think you know that, even though you always try to give people the benefit of the doubt." Sigrid nervously scratched her arm, and realized her skin was prickled with goosebumps. "Do you.. need a hug?" Sigrid asked gently, her own heart beating at a swift pace.

Alric looked up towards the cloudy sky, still looking lost. "No, I'm fine.."

But Sigrid threw her arms around him anyway, because she needed to be the one that comforted him. Needed to be the one he felt he could always rely on. His reaction was immediate; the moment she drew closer to him, he clung to her tightly, and buried his face in the crook of her neck. She sucked in her breath, a little ashamed of how much she enjoyed his touch even in these sad moments. And his scent felt so intimate to her. The crush she had on the young man had been on-going for as long as she could remember. Perhaps since the very first moment they had met.

Her hands stroked gently over his back, rubbing up and down the length of his spine. Again and again, she inhaled his fragrance - a cologne that seemed icy somehow, like a twirl of fresh-fallen snow caught in a breeze, mixed with his natural scent. It brought on a wave of emotions, making her insides tremble. Part of her wanted to kiss him, but it was not the right time. He needed her to be a friend right now. His best friend. So instead, she pressed herself more firmly against him, trying to comfort him as best as she could.

The moment eventually faded, as a couple of other students walked past and giggled a little bit, causing Alric to blush once more. And so the intimate hug was over. "I know it isn't easy, but you have to forget about her. You two were.. Never truly right for each other, y'know?" Sigrid explained, almost as if she was trying to convince him that her words were true. Alric sighed deeply, taking several deep breaths before he was able to compose himself enough to reply. He was really hurting, that much was clear.

"I wish I could just.. Turn off my emotions, Sigrid. I wish it didn't hurt me this much. I just feel so fucking betrayed." He went back to fidgeting with the lighter, shaking his head very slowly. 'Click, click, click..' - "I thought we had something special, but.. It seems I was wrong.." His voice trailed off, and Sigrid could see the gears turn in his head. There was something more, something bothering him. He chewed on the inside of his cheek, seeming to be a bit ashamed.

"I keep going back to when me and Debbie first kissed.. How it made me feel.. How drawn in I was. I was happy then, I think," he confessed, looking down at the pavement in shame. "But I think I realized quite early on that we weren't truly on the same wavelength, me and her. She attends every party she gets invited to, and half of the ones she's not invited to as well. But me.. Well, I don't like crowds of people as you know. I'm always shy around new people." Alric hesitated before he continued. "I think.. I think art of me knew our story wouldn't have a happy ending. And I still let her crush me."

Sigrid listened closely to everything he had to say. "I tried to warn you about her..," she let it slip, almost in a whisper.

"Yeah, you did," Alric chuckled lightly at that, but it was a pained one. "And I didn't listen." He wiped his eyes, which were starting to get wet, although he still seemed to be able to hold back the tears from falling. "Gods, I feel so pathetic..," he murmured under his breath.

"You aren't pathetic, Alric. You just wanted more from your relationship than what Debbie could give you. She's a selfish girl that doesn't think about the consequences of her actions, and that doesn't care about anyone but herself. She's had about 20 boyfriends in the past, y'know? And you've only dated two girls. Well, three if you include us when we were really little.." She let out a nervous chuckle.

"That doesn't count. We were like seven, and we 'dated' for like a week."

"I think it counts." Sigrid grinned at him, flashing her white teeth. "It definitely counts! A-Anyways.. Look, my point is..," She could feel her heart beat rapidly, and she didn't know how to proceed without scaring him off or saying the wrong thing. "Listen.. Why don't we have a sleepover tonight? At my place? Just like old times, when we were kids?"

Ever since Alric had started going out with Debbie, Sigrid had felt that he was slowly slipping out of his grasp. They had less time with one another, and more importantly, she felt as if she might have missed her chance. That thought was devastating. But this seemed like the best opportunity she had come across in months to invite him to something that could potentially pass as a date of sorts. She knew it probably wouldn't lead anywhere, but she wanted to be the one to comfort him. To be important to him. She hated the thought of leaving him alone when he was upset, and being alone with him for hours on end seemed like such a rare opportunity lately.

Alric raised an eyebrow at her suggestion, seeming unsure. "Sigrid, you know I don't like socializing much, and we're not children anymore. I haven't slept at your place since I was like 14 or something.."

"That's right, it's long overdue!" Sigrid beamed, trying to bring his mood up with her excitement. "It'll be like old times. We can play video games together, and maybe watch a movie, and eat snacks. I'll get you Pringles. The green ones that you like. Sourcream and.. Something. Onion?"

"You remember that?" Alric looked at her incredulously. He couldn't even remember the last time he had eaten chips. He was trying to be healthier these days, and put a lot of effort into taking care of his body, but the thought of having a cheat-day seemed quite appealing. He needed one.

"I remember everything about you," Sigrid murmured, in such a quiet voice that Alric likely barely heard her. If he did, he didn't comment on it - instead going back to fidgeting with his lighter for a moment. She watched him closely, wanting so badly for him to take notice of how she felt about him. Even now. Especially now.

"I don't think you should be alone right now," she insisted when he didn't give her a clear answer. "And if anyone can cheer you up, it's me! Who knows you better than I do, huh?" she grinned at him again, desperately hoping that it would help sway his decision. It worked, apparently, because Alric sighed once more, and closed his eyes - the fatigue hitting him like a ton of bricks.

"Fine. You're right, I guess..," he murmured. Sigrid tried not to show her excitement, although she wasn't sure how well she was able to hide it. "Should I come over after dinner, then?" Alric asked as they got up from their seats, ready to head off back into the campus. He put his lighter away in his pocket, which she took as a good sign. Perhaps he was calming down a bit?

"Uhm.. I'm home alone all weekend. My parents are out of town for a conference. You know how they are. Anyways, I could cook for you if you'd like?" Sigrid interlocked her fingers together, and pivoted back and forth on the ball of her feet nervously. She waited for a reply with bated breath, and watched his expression carefully as he considered the offer.

"... I don't want to be a bother.." Alric said, scratching the back of his neck. That was typical of him. But Sigrid shook her head vigorously, refusing to let him continue down that trail of thoughts.

"You won't be. I've been dying to cook for you for months anyways! I've gotten better, y'know? Please say yes. I need something to look forward to when classes are done!" she pleaded. "I'll have everything ready for you when you come over. Six o'clock, maybe?"

Alric was quiet for a time, trying to process the offer. The moment felt rather heavy - a feeling of excitement hung in the air, making Sigrid nervous that he might decline, or that he felt uncomfortable. Was she being too pushy so soon after his breakup with Debbie? That was the last thing she wanted. She glanced over at him from beneath her long eyelashes - and he looked back at her with those sad blue eyes that she'd happily drown in.

"Alright, fair enough," Alric gave in, and gave her a tiny little smile, though his eyes were still sullen. Sigrid let out the deep breath that she hadn't noticed she'd been holding, and she could feel her cheeks turn rosy in response and anticipation. She tried not to show her giddiness. But it was difficult, for his smile was her biggest weakness. There were few things in the world Sigrid would not do to put a smile on his handsome face.

"Great! It's a date!" she said softly.

Alric stopped dead in his tracks, as he visibly processed what he'd just heard. "Not like a date-date, right..?" he asked, looking at her with discernible worry in his eyes.

"N-No! Of course not! Just like a.. Friend date." She rubbed the back of her neck, subconsciously mimicking his earlier move, and avoided eye-contact with him.

"Oh," Alric relaxed. "Alright, then. Thank you. I'll be there at six. Should I walk you to class?"

He offered his hand to her, which she gladly accepted. They began walking towards the main campus building, holding hands as if it were the most normal thing in the world - but she treasured it. She loved Alric's soft hands, and his strong arms, and that strong chin with the little bit of scruff on it, which she liked to nuzzle into from time to time when she could get away with it. She wanted nothing more than to be held by those strong arms, day after day, feeling her entire body pressed against his chest as they kissed, or fell asleep together...

Sigrid was anxious as she walked through the aisles at the grocery store. She didn't know exactly why, but she kept worrying about what to cook for Alric, as if it mattered in the slightest. She just needed something to take her mind off the thought of him coming over to her house, and spending the night. There was something quite intimate about it now that they were adults, and the word 'date' had slipped out of her mouth before she knew what she was saying. Alric's reaction to it was a little heart-wrenching. She cursed herself internally. What if that mistake made him unnecessarily defensive now? She wanted to be close to him and comfort him, even if it wouldn't lead to anything else. It was important to Sigrid to show him that he could come to her whenever he needed comfort - just friends being there for each other.

She checked out with a bag full of vegetables for a side salad, chicken for the main course, and a plethora of chips, chocolate and sweets. She bought way too many things, considering the fridge at home was already pretty well-stocked. But she wanted to spoil Alric, and show off a little bit. Despite what society said about gender roles, she was quite certain a man still thought highly of a girl that could cook!

When she got home, she made sure to clean up the place, and to dust off her old gaming consoles that had not seen a lot of use since college began. They were lucky to have grown up in a college town and could attend a fairly prestigious one locally, both of them saving a small fortune on still being able to live at home.

Nonetheless, Sigrid was relieved that her parents were gone for the weekend. Not that they would have minded if Alric stayed over - they absolutely adored him, and had not-so-secretly been hoping for the two of them to date for years. But she wanted to be alone with him, and not have her mother bounce in every few hours with a cheeky grin on her face, making inappropriate comments about them being in the same room together, and how cute they would look as a couple. It was embarrassing enough already that her mom knew how much she liked Alric. Mother's always knew that sort of thing.

Sigrid felt herself becoming excited as the hour approached - but also increasingly nervous - and she rushed to do the prep-work for the evening meal before jumping in the shower. She carefully washed her hair with her strawberry-scented shampoo, and then shaved every part of her body, which always took just a tad longer than expected. Her heart fluttered at the thought of him arriving. When she got out of the bathroom, she dried off and wrapped the towel around her torso, and made her way into her bedroom to select the appropriate outfit for the evening. She wanted something that would make her look cute and a little sexy, without it coming across like she had put any extra effort into it. It was a difficult thing to balance.

In front of her large mirror, adorned with silver hearts all over the frame, she blow-dried her hair and then brushed it thoroughly. It fell down past her shoulders in golden waves, with a natural hint of subtle curls. Sigrid loved her hair, although it was thick, and often looked disheveled if she didn't brush it several times a day. She rubbed moisturizing lotion over her legs, and carefully applied a bit more under her eyes and along the sides of her nose. She couldn't help but check herself out in the mirror. Petite, with a small bosom, nice hips and curvy butt. She was fairly sure Alric wouldn't mind her body type, although he'd never told her directly what his physical preferences were. He was the kind of guy that mostly cared about someone's personality and their energy, anyways.

She did know that he liked long socks though. That was something he had confessed one time during Truth or Dare, a few years back. 'Emphasizes the thighs', he had said, or something along those lines. She didn't fully understand it, but that didn't matter - it wasn't about her. So she picked out a pair of white thigh-highs and put them on, then selected her most flattering set of underwear, and slid into them as well. Not because she expected Alric to see much of them, but 'just in case'. The bra was plain white, but with light-pink trim along the edges, and the panties were matching with a little ribbon in the front.

"Calm down, Sigrid.. You're only going to see Alric," she spoke out loud to herself as she put on her clothes. "You've seen him a million times before.."

And yet she could not make up her mind about what outfit to wear. There were too many possibilities, and none of them felt just right. Sigrid wanted it to be perfect! She groaned loudly after the fourth switch. Why was she making such a big deal out of this? But she couldn't help it. Finally, after two additional attempts, she settled for a black skirt with red stripes on it, and a tight, long-sleeved shirt that hugged her torso nicely. She put on some black eyeliner and some matte lip gloss, and her best perfume. The one in the tiny heart-shaped bottle, which she had only sparsely used since her mother gifted it to her last year for Christmas. It had a very alluring scent, she thought. A hint of something enticing.

Time was running away from her. The clock was nearly six and she had barely started cooking yet, other than prepping a few things and putting together a salad. The chicken had been marinating for a while, at least. Sigrid prayed she would not overcook it and make it dry, - or worse, undercook it and make him sick. Everything had to be perfect.

When it was ten to six, she was frantic, trying to get everything ready on time. And then there was a knock on the front door. Was he early!?

She rushed to open the door, wearing an apron and still gripping a large wooden spoon in her hand. Her heart began racing when she saw Alric standing outside, dressed in black jeans and a matching dress shirt that fit him rather well. Had he put some effort into looking good for the evening, she wondered? His hair was combed to the side, and he seemed freshly shaved. And he looked a bit happier than the gloom she had seen on his face this morning, although there was still a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"Hey. You look nice." Alric didn't wait for her to give him permission to step inside. He had been over so many times before, he practically felt like he was an extended part of the family. That had always been Sigrid's issue with getting close to him; He treated her too much like she was his sister. But she had caught him looking at her socks just then, and the way his gaze lingered there for a moment.. Did he like them? Did they make him feel ever-so-slightly aroused?
