I'm hoping that Arty showing compassion to Arilla will lead to her treating him better. Arilla's harsh treatment by her husband does help explain some of Arilla's bullying actions. It helps me not to dislike Arilla as much. Arty's stay with Jenny and her friend in the next chapter could be VERY interesting.
