Click hereThe Mayakkari bowed her head, "Uh, yes. I was asked to deliver Shriman Sonny a message. But I saw that he was busy, so I decided to wait."
Shriman? Sonny thought. That's a little too respectful, your excellence.
"I take it that you'll handle this?" Lictor asked, turning towards Sonny.
Sonny nodded. The Lictor bid him goodbye, and gave the Mayakkari a nod, before stepping through the portal.
"So," Sonny drawled, a hint of scepticism lacing his tone, "you trailed me for an hour just to deliver a message?"
"Indeed," the Mayakkari confirmed.
"Well then, what's this all-important message?"
"You've been summoned to give testimony," the Mayakkari stated.
Sonny's eyes narrowed, his suspicion growing. "Summoned? Out of the blue? What's this all about?"
"The investigation regards the theft of powers from Maya Lokam, committed by an individual known to reside in close proximity to your home," the Mayakkari replied with a hint of finality.
"Well, tell them I don't know anything about that," Sonny said, waving his hand dismissively and calling Kaala to come with him.
"It does not matter," the Mayakkari said firmly. "The summons states that you are required to present any information you possess -- to the Council, directly, under oath."
Sonny turned, looking at the Mayakkari, making no attempt to mask his annoyance. He wanted to respond flippantly, but decided against it. "Fine, I'll come in two days."
The Mayakkari nodded.
To be Continued
This "Awakening" is great, complex, interesting, and fantasy in a new direction. It has the potential to be a novel with more than one book. Keep it coming.
